IL-2 is my favorite plane! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I'm waiting on the Platinum pack to upgrade to FB+AEP+PF, so with the sniper tank gunners in the original IL-2 Sturmovik I get to see lots of fun damage http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

She always brings me home (well, unless I lose a wing to those thrice-cursed tanks)

Just realized, I really should get around to creating a new sig

The IL-2 campaign in the original IL-2 is still the most nail biting, exhilarating and emotional campaign I have played with this sim. Getting back to base was always a tense mix of hoping the cover fighters would deal with any enemy fighters while also wrestling with damaged control surfaces, fuel leaks and the like. Somehow I always limped back to my airfield where I could bail or crash land if the plane was too damaged for a wheels down landing (or if they were shot off !! ). It really is one of the most reliable aircraft in the game and I still like to go on armour busting missions with it. Great plane http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I was just trying to get back to friendly territory before bailing out - I had to keep the engine at 110% to struggle up to a safe height and even with the rad open it is going to lock up eventually. I love the modelling of the wing spars and ribs - very cool!

I still hear the engine bearings screeching in my nightmares, just before the prop locks up and I have to glide into my base on one aileron and a shot up tail - classic stuff http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Me and my squad fly this aircraft all the time!! We fly all variants, we dogfight with 16 rockets, we fly off carriers, we blow up tanks, and terrorize enemy airfields. Just about anything you can do with this aircraft, we do, and if we haven't done it yet, we will eventually!!

I love this aircraft!! Although, I can't wait to get the IL-10!!! Now that will be a day to remember the first time I get that thing rolling along the runway!

I think the crowning moment of my time flying online yesterday was getting shot down in my new found love (The JU88) by an IL2.

I also love flying it. Such a nice stable mudmoving aircraft with the type of durability that I wish I could get out of a 110 or Stuka.

hi all,

I used to fly this plane as a dogfighter until a couple of years ago but I found myself being accused of 'cheating' because I could take down 109s and 190s.

Flying low and and using flaps in the turn before straightening up and giving a 400 meter burst at the 'aces' was great fun http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

And the trusty rear gunner was not a guy to be trifled with http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Returning to base with more holes than plane made the whole thing worthwhile http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Best Regards,
MB_Avro

Seriously, with enough firepowr to tear up tanks, shredding up aircraft that unfortunately end up centered in it's sights pose little difficulty...

Moreover, trying to shoot down IL-2s with a Bf-109E is serious fun; watching the bullets and armor bounce and fly off as you connect! This is the one situation I can recall having to strategize exactly where you're going to hit it before you press the trigger! Hitting the nose of the IL-2 seems to be it's soft spot while using deflection shooting.

The IL2 would always remain one of the best rides in this game.

Some of my best online memories are from missions on the IL2 with a bunch of my squad members. If the IL2 is deadly it's almost unbeatable in a pack.

I don't know why you love it, I hate it and have stopped playing.

In Spanish "Oleg" means American and British aircraft are horrid, while German aircraft are UBER!

You don't think so? fly blue for a week, then switch to red...

Well; my take of it is that we've held off the heathern hordes for long enough with a disparity of equipment; and now, since the patch; we can clobber 'em at will.

Come on in; the water's lovely.

I get shot down equally flying for either side.

I've been downed by 190's while flying 109's.

I've been downed by 109's while flying 190's (Usually my favored D9 variant).

Spits have nailed me flying blue as well.

Actually, I'm pretty much an equal opportunity target.

Though, I was bit annoyed this last weekend when some arrogant snot tried to take me on in a Mosquito while I was flying a Bf-109G10 - a slightly shot-up G10 as I had just finished twisting my way through a veritable mob of red fighters, taking some hits in the process, but not enough to cripple me. I was a little surprised when I saw that the aircraft that had just made a pass at me was a Mosquito, but I felt insulted when he turned and came back after me! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif That was galling! So, even though my intent had been to RTB in my flying Swiss cheese I decided that this guy had to be put in his place! But - as always happens - while I was in the process of getting on his tail I was bounced by yet another red aircraft and was neatly polished-off.

(I always fly Axis aircraft when flying Blue, Allied when flying Red no matter what the server allows).

I just played a few missions online practicing my new favorite tactic of running in to the enemy airfield at 10-50 M wide open, popping up to get a good bead on some a/c and bombing them to ****. My favorite part is the run back out balls to the wall and rear gunner blazing away http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif I still find it amazing how few pilots are really good at getting down in the weeds without flying themselves into the ground.

Am I the only one who has their control cables broken constantly? It's a great plane to fly, but when the 1st piece of flak that hits me takes out my elevators, and ailerons, i get really annoyed. this happens probably evry other flight. Besides that, my favorite plane.

It was pretty funny. I wonder who that brazen and very lucky Mosquito pilot was. I have to admit that I admire his moxy (benefit of the doubt) in trying to tackle a 109G10 in one of those. I mean: 1 sudden pass and then run like hell, that is sane, but he was trying to dogfight with me.

Not just you. Just yesterday when Kim caught me completely off-guard while I was orbiting our base in my P-40C waiting for BigD to take-off his burst took out my aileron and elevator controls and rudder alone was not gonna keep me in the air. I bailed.

Got across the lines...engine seized...ejectejecteject http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I get my cables shot out all the time too! My goal now is to run a low-level parafrag drop from a B-25 online and survive (yet to happen after 10 odd tries). I'm getting better at navigating around to the back of the enemy base and running in unspotted but I get clobbered on the run out. I think if I was on a full switch server I'd get away...the icons are giving me away down in the dirt.

Well one points and laughs at me for getting my 88 shot down by a IL2.. Bah http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif (I know it's all in good fun)

However.. I will also never forget the time that I shot an IL2 down while flying a JU87-D5.

ahhh the D-5....gotta love that Stuvi sight - like knowing the lotto numbers a day early that sight is. I wish there were more skins available for that bird! I like the -88 but sometimes its a bit overkill for some smaller tactical ops - like taking out bridges. Can anything possibly do this better than a D-5?

I just had the most incredible time, in an offline IL-2 mission.

We were tasked to defend a small town from german occupation.

The weather was absolutely horrible, overcast raining, etc. When we got to the target we saw 4 groups of tanks attacking the town.

In short order the 4 of us IL-2 first series with 16 RS-82 destroyed all 16 tanks without a scratch on any of us and minimal losses to our friendly ground forces!!!!

YEEHAAWWW!
