I was wondering about the Japanese Sentai markings.
IJAAF aircraft usually had markings on the tail identifying the Sentai it belonged to, and used different colors for the prop spinner and the tail markings to identify the Chutai of that Sentai.
Each Sentai had a different emblem on the tail, some rather simple, others quite complicated (at least for me to draw http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif). You can see this in FB for example, if you select an Ki-84 and set the markings to Japanese, the tail will show an emblem from a certain Sentai.
I'd like to know if these markings will be present for a number of Sentais in Pacific Fighters, and if the different Chutai colors will be included?
Also I've noticed different markings on the tails of Hellcats and Corsairs depending on the squadron and carrier they belong to. I guess this is kind of the same as with IJAAF aicraft. Will those be included?
Thanks.

Good Point MG. It would certainly add to the realism if correct tail unit markings are use in PF. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm sure they will be included. There are tons of sources to show where certain sentai were stationed and what their markings were. I have one source for the entire JAAF from 1931-45.

You'll probably get a few select skins, but otherwise 3rd party skins should be the solution. They look better anyway.

I mean, how do you make a tail marking fit both a Ki-61 and a Ki-84?

As I have posted on before in both the IL2 forum and this one, all the aircraft markings need a complete remake. The US and RAF markings are terrible, and the Japanese markings are wholly generic.

In regard to the US Navy carrier based planes, I posted something about their AG and squadron markings. The Navy restricted the use of these markings on planes as a deterant to enabling the Japanese from tracking what area individual carriers were in.

I'll bump that post up for review.

There is the same problem with US Army Air Force than with Japanese Army Sentai : Groups are identified wiyh a sheme on the tail and the nose.

Well I was thinking, maybe in PF such markings could be like the unit emblems used on for example the German aircraft. Put em on the tail, maybe resize them a bit with each different aircraft.
Ofcourse this wouldn't look as good as with custom skins but it could be a way to include all units.
