And I know what the conversation going on in the car in front of the plane:

"Check you six, man, check your six! Break! BREAK!"

I would rather land in the field then near this officer. Think about emergency landing with plane on fire. Survived the crash but got shot cause did run away from exploding airplane.

Since no one was hurt and everything turned out ok, if I were the State Trooper, I would have said, to break the ice, "Do you have any idea how fast you were going?"

Father and Son from Centerville, OH where I live. I like his comment about when the "real clue" that he may have a problem occurred.

From the Dayton Daily News:
Highway an impromptu landing strip
Centerville pilot, son uninjured, but won't make it to AirVenture.

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

When the engine of his World War II-era plane began running rough, William J. Leff of Centerville thought he had trouble.

It was Sunday, about 7:45 p.m., and the weather was good. He was flying a 1946 North American T-6G 2,800 feet above Fond du Lac, Wis., on his way from Peoria to the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture show in Oshkosh.
"It started running real rough and smoking," Leff recalled Monday evening by telephone. "And the real clue was when the propeller stopped. I was trying to make Fond du Lac airport and it became evident I wouldn't make it."

His 19-year-old son, Greg, had been flying the fighter pilot training aircraft until the trouble hit. Then Leff, 59, took over. He descended over U.S. 41 near Fond du Lac County Airport. Next thing he knew, he was staring at power lines.

Leff brought the aircraft down and intentionally bounced it over a moving police car, landing it in front of the cruiser. Fortunately, the other drivers were alert and there were no accidents.

Unfortunately, the T-6G's wing clipped a sign post and was damaged. The crew made it without injury.

Part of the event made it to YouTube.com. The highway was closed for hours as authorities towed the plane to the airport.

Leff, who has owned the plane 32 years and has featured it at the Vectren Dayton Air Show, won't be flying in AirVenture. He was a featured flier today and Wednesday. He plans to haul the engine back to the Greene County Airport where he'll repair it. The plane will stay in Fond du Lac for now.

"I always love coming up to AirVenture and entertaining folks here," he said. "Maybe next year."

Not necessarily on topic, but here's a vid of another great emergency landing.

The Trooper was too busy having to deal with that dumb *** driver in the white car. Clueless idiot who cut between the two marked patrol cars with emergency lights on ...it is edited out of this version of the tape but I 've seen the whole thing on another site.
