Here's a picture from the the recent interview with Oleg in PC Pilot. I thought some of you might like to see it. I like the trees.

To the right of the picture you can just see what look like older WIP trees from the main page photo - of a weatherd Spitfire. Those 'older' trees look far more randomly spread, and most look like fir trees of some sort to me.

Nice grouping Oleg! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hello!

Could it be that in the second image the altitude is a bit lower, and possibly the lighting conditions are different, so the rendering is slightly different also?
The trees seem not that different to me...

Those images look like the ones from about two years ago, when was the magazine released?

It is in the November/December 2008 issue and there was a thread about it here in October:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/3771002596/p/1

According to some other sites the screenshots where nice but nothing you haven't seen already and there are about 17 questions and answers. All this covers 5 pages in the latest PC Pilot.

This is from the issue before the current one. The magazine is released every second month.

The positioning of the trees is what strikes me as being more realistic, however, I agree with others that there is very little difference between them.
The main thing is that they don't look quite as alpine, and therefore less out of place as the ones we have seen in previous screenshots.

BTW I just posted the picture because I thought people might be interested, not because I thought the trees were particularly impressive.

Earlier trees here maybe??? [edit: This is an OLD WIP!]

Thanks Major

The forests are huge improvement over IL-2 series. No disrespect to IL-2's original forests as they were a great frame saving idea.

I doubt very much that Oleg is in any financial difficulties at the moment. He may start have those issues if the sim drags on far into 2010.

part of the posted interview here...

"OM: Releasing the sim as originally scheduled was our biggest challenge. The SUCCESS of the orignial IL-2 Sturmovik gave us the FREEDOM to do as much as we wanted with BOB. That's why the development time is so prolonged. If we were defined by time constraints, we could have released something much simpler, less detailed, less accurate and much sooner. But our goal with BOB is not to push something out the door and collect a quick 'buck. We want to build the best sim yet. The task has so many facets, and all of them are so complex and time consuming that it simply cannot be done quickly. We're so many new things with BOB, many of which have never been done before. As a result we constantly find ourselves having to learn new things and face new chanllenges. It's a very exciting process!"
_______________________________________________
Does this sound like a man in financial difficulties. The proof is....as implied, we would be flying a dumbed down BOB at this moment. The team has sold 7+ versions of IL-2 in the last seven years.

Ya, I think that some people are going to be disappointed when the game is finally released. After seeing so many "screen caps" for so many years I think their are still some people who think the final release of the game is going to look dramatically different. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I must say that now you mention it it does look a bit odd.
If you are 100 percent certain of it then Maybe Oleg should be told.

I found this, it doesn't look like a late Spitfire to me, though I don't know whick mark it is:

This gets stranger. This one is different:

BTW: The picture where the tail was first questioned was an old WIP picture !!

biggs222

that is strange... i doubt very much that the art team would change it to the incorrect one.

yet that image looks to be the most up-to-date pic (given the detail of the trees)...

why would they "correct" the spit with the incorrect parts?

The picture showing the damage model is the newest of the two.

oh ok, im sorry i got confused, the newer trees are in the hurricane pic from the magazine.

well that wraps it up then if that damage pic is the latest pic of the spit.
