I note that next to the enemy aircraft description, a number is displayed that gets smaller in amount,as I get closer. I realize this must be the distance between my aircraft,
and the other aircraft. However, is this distance in kilometers, so that an amount shown as 3.50 would mean 3 1/2 kilometers, and an amount shown as .40 would mean 4/10 of a kilometer?

Thanks,
Stanner
PS Why is it I now must sign on using the Microsoft Explorer browser in order to be able to post on this forum? If I try the AOL browser, I am told that I am banned fromt he forum. Is there something going on between this forum and AOL?

hi

I never bother with them distance tags on icons, on sommaps if u get that close to see the tags u can hit them, esp on the warclouds servers, plus they are dark icons with fog and low lighting, u get a lot of eye strain using them.

Here is a rule of thumb, use ur iron sight, the entril with of iron sit can fit a fw190 or bf109 from wing tip to wing tip, if that happen the distance is 100 yards, or 30 metres. now if the plane is half your iron sight it is 200 yards or 60 metre give or take a few, then at 1/4 of the of the length of the sight it 400 yards or 130 metre, 1/6 of the length = 600 yard or 200 metres. The point is this at 1/6 the plane would be really small and very far away.

This is how i have just the sights to measure distance.

I hope it helps.

Correction:
109.361 yd = 100 m.
328.083 ft = 100 m.

Generally I have my gun converging at 200 meters or less so I wait until I'm practically on top of the target before firing. That's especially important for the low ammo Russian planes to make every bullet count.

So I ignore the range counter, too.
