Many people that host missions in VEF or VOW use 9.6 KB connection. The pings with this setting are ok but, in combat, russian planes that turn turn turn all time fly like UFOs and for german pilots that make B&Z tactics is very frustrating. In addition, there are times that some planes appear from the anything and still damage or kill to you having checked your six 2-3 seconds before.

Other people recommend 28.8 KB as better option when they fly with players that have modem (very bad connections in some cases), but I want know what connection option is recommended by Oleg Team for fly online (good flight/minimun conecction possible). Thx

Well, If you can afford it, anything above and Including ISDN connection(128kilobits up-and-download-that is 16 KB/s) is fine enough for playing and hosting.

The "problem" are the players who have poor connections and cant select ISDN in the game. I want know what connection setting is the best in these situations

I dont think he answered your question correctly , he refered to the actually connection speed ( isdn or whatever ) were as you asked about FB connection settings in game.

my opinion is that though 9600 connection setting will make pings ok i personally dont think that enough info is sent through thus making fast rolls etc look warpy, host that use this usually only have a 128k upload which imo is too little to host a full VOW mission ( taking into account all the AI , ground action etc ) i have 256 and have hosted a few VOWs and my game is set to whatever HL sets it at ( 56k i think ) and i think from the responce from players that it has been ok.

we need someone to do a indepth test or even Oleg to conferm the ammount of date required for smooth gaming, if we knew the minimum then it would be the client at fault when warps happen ( a long as the host is capable )

just my opinion..

There is a low-bandwidth default setting that all players EXCEPT THE HOST should use (56K). This creates the best pings for everyone (all other things being equal). The server should use the highest setting he can (and I'd agree with the ISDN or cable being preferred).

Unless this has changed from IL-2 days, forcing a higher speed as a client to the server actually is to the detriment of your connection, as it taxes the host to send just to those users at a higher rate.

By the way, I have no idea how technically correct any of that is, it's just what I've seen posted and what I believe reflects what the design team has said on the matter.

Don't use UBI.com thats one good solution. Its a lag inducing fun fest.

I believe the host (the clientserver) automatically uses all available upspeed bandwidth.

I haven't determined that it matters what setting the host uses.

The clients, however, are receiving "rate updates" from the server at the appointed setting. Too high a setting for one person over others will saturate the bandwidth.

More players = smaller pieces of the pie they must take.

IE: A VEF/VOW mission 8 vs 8 + AI.

Host has 512KB DSL connection. 6 players have DSL connection too and the others pilots have modem 56K/33.6K. Which option should choose HOST for hosting and Which option should choose the players for a good game with the minimum lag/warp???

Hey, Ankanor,

Consider removing the girl from your sig? She looks, uh, rather young...and taken with your verbal sig, it's a mite disturbing.

all i know is once i hosted a VOW with my connection set at cable in FB and i was uploading at 32 kb/s ( my max ) and i was getting about 5 fps in game = not good

once a few guys left it dropped a little but after 2 specific guys left it dropped a lot so my guess there settings were high too and taking all my bandwidth , that being said everyother time i host its at HL delfault ( 56k i think ) and i upload at arround 24 to 26 kb/s and get good fps (plus that leaves a little for skin downloads etc )
so imo if you have 256k up or more set at 56k ,if less then maybe for ping sake set at lower.

For Hyperlobby play either set your speed in FB setup to 14.4k (as a cable user I know this is painful, but I was recently "schooled" as to why this is best), or go into the FB conf.ini and find this

[net]
speed=xxxx

and set the speed to 2000.
