Barely noticeable increases in some games, nothing noticeable in PF on an ATI 9800 Pro 128MB.

Possibly smoother than before...but if it is, its minor.

Still, I'm not going to roll them back so they seem pretty good.

I viewed my dxdiag and found the following:
Name: Radeon X850XT P.E.
Main Driver: ati2dvag.dll
Version: 6.14.0010.6490 English
Date: 10/26/04
DDI Version 9(or higher)
How do I tell if I have the latest version as
nothing I see is close to 5.7? I am not
having any problems but would like to keep updated before their are any problems. Thanks Lowell

Just guessing but you probably have 4.10 (thats a ten, not a one-zero) based on the date. Catalyst drivers go by date. So 5.7 is July 2005.

I hear you. ATI does not exactly make it obvious which version you have installed. There is a simple way I can never remember. Anyone...

right click on desktop, properties, settings, advanced, options, and you'll see the catalyst version.

But... the games work more slowly with the newest driver or not?

With the catalyst drivers, it's usually quite the opposite. Your 9800 should benefit.

1 or 2 fps gained on a 9800 Pro http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Been doing a LOT of system tweaking. Ir you're using ATI cards, download the drivers but AVOID that graphics interface they have like the plauge. You can just update the driver with applying the "Catalyst" utility over it. You take an almot 40 meg hit to RAM with it.

Installed the 5.7 last night. Was not able to see any noticeable effect. Tried the Black Death track and found no significant change in FPS using FRAPS. But I didn't do a very scientific study...

This is what i got going from 5.1 to 5.7...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif...only on Crimea map so far.

And yes, i did clean uninstall/install; maybe i got a corrupt DL?

Anyone else has this?

@ Lord rah: You never know before you install the new drivers, sometimes they help, other times they mess things up..also depends on your system and settings.

that screenshot is pretty trippy!
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
so basically its a gamble then? is there anyway to revert back to the older drivers if it causes any problems?

Did you do what you always should and use a driver cleaner program to wipe out the old versions before installing the new?

Well, i did what i always do, uninstall according to Steve V`s guide (was posted here some time ago). That always worked fine up to now...
Right now i am having another go with Driver Cleaner 3, and a fresh DL of the cat, perhaps i just got a corrupt file. I saw a thread in Community Help where someone had the same prob and solved it with Driver Cleaner, just weird that i didn`t have to use it up to now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif ... Will post results later.

Reverting to your old Drivers is easy; you just DL them and install them like you did with the new one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

BTW, if u think the screenshot`s trippy, try flying around in that lsd-sky http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
