Hi all -

Got this game over the weekend and am on mission 11. SICK GAME!!! So far I've sunk a bunch of c2 and c3 cargo ships, a couple of destroyers, maybe an armed trawler or two. I know I'm a total rookie, but if you could help me with a few rookie questions I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

* Last mission I got a "NEW RADIO MESSAGE!" message every 10 seconds. I hit "M" and read the message, it said "Your port has been changed to XYZ". Fine, but it kept on saying "NEW RADIO MESSAGE!" throughout the rest of the mission! Why? Very annoying. Do I need to patch my DVD version?

* If I patch my DVD version, will I lose my saved games?

* Where are the battleships!??? The carriers!?!? I'll probably get my butt kicked when I encounter them, but I still wanna try. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

* I read on this site that you can attack ships in port. Is this true? Do I just sail on up to a British port and start lookin' around?

I guess that's it for now. All who answer - thanks for helping me. As you probably already know, the instruction book SUCKS.

1. It's better to install the latest patch,in this case 1.4b.
You can find it here (http://www.silenthunteriii.com/uk/updates.php)

2. No you don't lose them but it is better to go to port and then update with the patch.

3. They are there but you have to be lucky to find them because the travel at high speeds.
the best change you find the capitals are in the AL and AM grids.

4. This is true but you have to install patch 1.4b first or the world mod wich you can find here (http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches2005.html#sh3) and then only in high profile ports like Scapa Flow or New York.

Sick as in 'great' ...
OR
Sick as in 'rubbish'. Then I'd say, install reality MODS turn on 100% realism and play a career. You'll definitely have a change in attitude http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

'Sick' as in 'fantastic'.

Hey, if I turn up the realism what can I expect? Plotting my own torpoedo pathing? No more waypoints? Working the hydrophone myself? Using that book to identify the ships?

I definitely look forward to doing all that, just wanna sink my first major ship and get the hang of attacking while submerged first. But I promise I will up the realism...

I guess upping the realism is a progressive thing really. I started with zero realism so I could get to grips with the actual gameplay, but as time went on I gradually increased the realism to match my requirements.

I have been playing this game since April or May last year and I have yet to make the final jump to 100% realism, I'm currently on 74%. I guess I haven't bothered to read up on the methods of manual targeting etc which are the last tick boxes left to check. When I get a quiet moment or too I will read up on the theory http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Just a quick note on the patching: Whenever I patch my game with the latest, um, patch, I do lose my saves. I think it's cos there are new features in every patch (especially 1.4) that the old saves can't reconcile. So do yourself a favour and back up your saves, or just don't get TOO attached to your current crew...

Patched it last night between missions, didn't lose my saves. Started right off on patrol 12, crept into Dover port during a midnight rainstorm, and slammed two torpedos into the side of a big tanker.

Life is good. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
