View Full Version : What view?

I am very new to this community, and I was wondering, what view is the best for this game. Cockpit view, non cockpit view? Do certain servers require certain views?

Yes, the host of the online game can decide to limit your views seeral ways. read your manual for how and when it can be done.

and if this is one of those cwos fishing trips, the post has already been reported to the moderators. Last thing I wanna see uglying up this forum is another boring cockpit on vs. cockpit off debate. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I mean no harm, I mean no harm.

Offline, play it how you like it.

Online, if the host switches the "Cockpit On" difficulty setting on, you're stuck in cockpit (which is not necessarily a bad thing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

Dont know why that one guy got upset and "reported" you.. He needs to lighten up.

Anyway, I fly cockpit view with externals on. I like the realism of in cockpit, but also like to see the planes from the outside while in flight. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I would say in cockpit. To me,I get lost of orientation when doing manouvers without it(hate those silly deflection shots too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).But it´s all a matter of taste.

I fly without a cockpit whenver I get the chance. I'm still learning really how to fly so I hope to ween myself off it eventually. I do, however use the cockpit view when landing.

I always fly full cockpit on but allowing external views............ depending on where you fly online it will tell you what is enabled, Hyperlobby games when you go to join tell you if the cockpit is on or off externals off or on so you can choose the type of game you prefer to play http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oh and welcome aboard to both the game and the forums........ Don't worry about what luckyboy said, it's just you sometimes get the odd spoof post here and he thought you might have been one... you will find we are a friendly bunch here....

Thanks guys. Also, any joystick recommendations? Flying keyboard isn't working out.

Sorry caps where on........... you do get 2 full sized sticks though, one being a throttle unit and they are very robust http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Fly what suits your needs at the moment. I can tell you that whatever you fly now in the future you can always make things more immersive by upping the immersion factor in the settings. Right now I suggest you fly with whatever you are comfortable with. As Tully said.. the server host sets the settings.. but there are enough servers with open pits and icons... open pits and no icons.. closed pits and icons....closed pits and no icons etc to keep you satisfied. Dont let ANYONE tell you what is best to fly and dont fly what is best for others. Experience this sim from the ground up.. and if that means starting out as arcade as you like then thats fine. You paid your hard earned $$ for the sim.... and no one should rag you or put you down because of how you want to use it. I have been flying in this sim since 2002 if you include my IL2 time... I still like externals..... I just do. Icons I can do without and the pit.. I can take it either way. In the 332nd Coops we fly with a flex pit..... it is open.. if you prefer it closed then close it yourself. NP.... All these derogatory names like "Wonder Woman View" "Noob Plane" etc..... dont mean a thing. One of the best things about this sim is that it is all about YOU.... and what you want to do with it.

As far as a stick goes...... I always send folks here (http://store.yahoo.com/saitekusa/recprod.html) first. I think the saitek X45 is ther best HOTAS for the money. If you cant get a recon there then even at full retainl $79 it is a good buy.

I use external views and have a Saitek Evo joystick.. So far its lasted about 5 months, and has a good feel to it.

Cockpit on with external on. The only game I liked flying with no cockpit was X-Wing vs. TieFighter. Welcome to the addiction!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Fly what ever view your comfortable with while you get into the swing of things. As you progress and your skills increase I think you will want to make it more of a chalenge. The main thing is enjoy yourself and have fun. I use the cougar but don't recomend it. A lot of people use the X45 and seem very happy with it.
