Just watched it, wonderful viewing. Basically a TV series following 'Bomber Crew' where a youngster of today is picked for Spitfire pilot training of circa 1940, then tested to see if today's youth is up to the job. Interlaced between the selection process and training are interviews with LW and RAF pilots and ground crew about their enperiences together with real life footage.
left me with a lump in my throat to here that chances of death were 50% for the first 5 sorties and that overall 1 in 6 died (RAF side).

Still, essential viewing and the 7 hour spitfire training starts next Friday - set your video.

Enjoy! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

This was advertised here in Australia as 'comming soon' on the ABC. I've been keeping an eye out for it ever since. Thanks for the heads up. It can't be too far off now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif.

I found it a bit boring and I'm a Brit who loves the Spit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

The best bits by far were the interviews with the veterans.

'It was only sheer luck that I wasn't shot down on my first sortie'

'These Me109's flashed past with their bright yellow noses. They looked professional, and I felt very much an amateur...'

Sad to think these guys will all be gone in a few years.

I saw a good half hour prog the other day on the History channel where they compared the Me109E and the Spit Mk1. They showed .303 fired into a wing, and 20mm fired into the same wing to show the differnce in punch of the guns. That was really interesting. The conclusion was that the pilots had it pretty much even in the BOB. The Jerries with their lack of fuel etc and the Spits and Hurries with their **** armament.
