It is our pleasure to announce the start up of a new historical server capable of serving 80+ virtual pilots where the focus is teamwork and mission oriented.

http://www.warwingsart.com/WarWingsServer/Warwings_Sig_P51B_325thFG_800.jpg

Starting today the server will be available in Hypperlobby and All Seeing Eye. The theater of operations will be Mediterranean from July 10th 1943 and April 1944. As a historical server we will encourage the wearing of historical skins.

To this extent, we have created a very extensive skin pack with netcache that will ensure playability and immersion. All attempts in furnishing group ,markings have been made allowing you the participant a vision of what it must have been like.

Contributing skin artists:

Kristorf

Tony Taylor

Abraxa

Graf

VPMedia

Sparrow

Buglord

Canon

Monguse
[/list]

Get Warwings Skin pack HERE (http://www.warwingsart.com/WarWingsServer/MissionSkins/WarwingsServer_MTO_1944.zip)
The contents of the skin pack can be found HERE (http://www.warwingsart.com/WarWingsServer/MissionSkins/Warwings_MTO_Summer_1944_Skins.txt)

Being a mission oriented historical server we encourage and invite all virtual squads to join and wear the respective historical equivalents (1).
We also encourage screen shot artists to participate and record missions and post images for their pleasure.

Warwings Server settings:
1. Icon Off
2. Turbulence on
3. Padlock Off
4. Minimappath Off
5. Cockpit On
6. Skin Download on (if you do not use skin DL please wear correct markings)
7. No death kick at this time.
8. No server password required at this time
9. Teamspeak: 70.87.121.84 NO PASSWORD

Stats Page:
http://www.favacw.dyndns.org/warwings/

Registration procedure:
Go to :
Statistic -> Registration
Enter your Pilot Handle and password (make your password your pilot name)
When password is enabled on the server, you will need to logon the server after you select a base by entering the following in the chat bar:
<logon<YourPassWord

Please note, you may join either Allied or Axis but you may only fly what you registered as. If you wish to fly for both sides (during this non campaign phase) you may enter two pilots (one for Allied the other for Axis). Also note changes may be in place when in campaign mode disallowing pilots flying for more than one side.

Rules: (simple version)
1. Base suppression is allowed.
2. Deliberate chute shooting is NOT allowed
3. Cheating, swearing, cussing in any language will get you a permanent ban. (We have a multi national participation)
4. Insulting a player will get you one warning only.

Please download the skin pack, join and enjoy.

1. At this time we can not generate every skin used in the Mediterranean. However, if your squad uses 95 to 100% historical skins we encourage you to submit your skins with their netcache equivalent for inclusion in the server as well as a separate netcache for participants. Please PM me for instructions

Would you do one DiD (Dead is Dead) night every week? That would make my day and attract many DiD offliners.

For the time being I see your best selling point to be "Base suppression is allowed". Also, icons completely off prevent most players from joining. I believe teh majority prefer icons on even for 1-2km distances, where the size of the monitor and the resolution give unfair advantages.

And of course thanks for creating a historical server. We are in need of them.

1st: Welcome back, Neural: http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

What I desperately want to see is an on-line real server that uses default aircraft labels. I have long since discovered that in this game I cannot ID aircraft far enough away to react correctly in a timely manner (recently found myself dogfighting a friendly Spitfire in a Tempest V for example) and because I cannot pick aircraft up in this game's graphics when they're against the ground I am hapless without them.

What are the settings you are using when it comes to labels?

Looks good Monguse!

Monguse
09-03-2007, 09:52 AM
Thanks gentlemen

The settings are the same we use in Forgotten Skies. If many do not know it is an online campaign and is currently in phase III May 1944.

The aircraft compliment are all historic including an Italian Biplane. All data was culled form historical records as well as ammunition load.

Warwings will be embracing DID (Dead is Dead) and will be expanding to encompass different theaters and dates. It is our focus to bring a much needed historical balance to the sim. To so to that light, we will be featuring different aircraft for each group by month and year of involvement as reflected in the map rotations for the month.

As fas as labels or being able to ID your compatriots or bogeys. If you fly allied you will see yellow tailed mustangs of the 52nd FG, 325th FG Yellow Checker Tails, 332nd Red Tails,
31st FG candy stripes. If you fly Axis, you will see JG77, JG53... ANR all with white theater bands. These are historical labels and as such we will not need to enable in-game labels.

For those that can not navigate well we will entertain enabling minimap.

Regardless your taste, I welcome everyone's participation.

Any chance of PTO at some point?

The icons are useful because the resolution is not realistic...you just can't recognize AC at the distance you can in reality, and I fly a pretty high res.

The mini map is needed because the ground isn't that detailed either, and is alot of repeated shapes and lines....at least at the res I see it in.

Just my 2 cents, but the historical setting wiht the skins is cool. I just doubt I will be able to see them until it's too late. At least that's the way it is for me on most of the other servers. I gotta give this a try though.

About the PTO, yes we will be doing PTO maps using historical skins and under one basic premise, if it was not there it will not be used, period.

Enforcer572005, have you mapped a key for zooming? It's what I use.

No icons and no map paths is great. You will be amazed how fast you adjust, once you get rid of the visual 'crutches'. I promise.

90% of servers are icon based. It is very welcome indeed to have one more server join the niche category http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

No map paths is ok, but no icons is only for squads with comms, where one player seeing something is enough. Sadly not for us lonewolves who don't have time and don't want to belong to a squad or even use teamspeak, but only want to fly for a couple of hours after work. Full realism is one thing; continuously diving on friendlies and then breaking at the last 500m is another, and this sure doesn't enhance realism http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Actually, I'm the sqaudless, couple of hours after work guy too http://media.ubi.com/us/forum_images/gf-glomp.gif

You can recognise aircraft types with ease once you practise a bit. You can also see a distant dot and tell it's friendly or not by the way it behaves. Much the same way real pilots did.
It is a bit frustating to learn at first, but once you do you will be amazed how adept you can become. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Couple of things

Warwings will not be a part time server. We were testing this weekend for AAA density, altitude and playability and everything needed to be altered was.

One thing that we promise is to encourage team speak and flight discipline. To this end we will be locking down the server with password for side specific training be it bomber formation or Jabo runs for either side.

So, in keeping to our word on Sunday the 16th at 3:00 PM Eastern time (NY) -5:00 GMT (15:00 hours NY time, 20:00 hours UK time) we will be having a MULTISERVER BOMBER PRACTICE (B25) without opposition. Even if you fly blue in your Ju88, He111 or whatever, you should attend as basic formation flying and merging is all the same basic principle.

If you are interested in Bomber Practice the official sign up sheet can or will be found here:
http://www.battle-fields.com/commscentre/showthread.php?p=170403#post170403

Now some might say why do this, the answer is simple. We have had a influx of new participants of which many are interested to learn.

Warwings will always encourage large bomber formations on its missions for both sides as the time to target and distances will be larger than normal.

I ask for everyone to get teamspeak and get on comms come in and have a good time.

Aside from all of this, Warwings will officially go live this Thursday September 6th.

@Rat, my eyes are a tad old too, I wear glasses. To this day I don't have a problem in being able to ID friend or foe unless the silhouettes are similar P47/FW109 and 109/Spit using in game skins.

If one wears correct skins with theater colors then it's quite simple. Unless you are not familiar with group or theater colors for Axis or Allied.

@Freddie,
I would imagine one would need to fly before you have a profile. BTW you need not logon until Thursday when we go 100% live.

I'm genuinely surprised by the number of people who do not have a problem id'ing planes. You mean you can tell whether someone is friend or foe from 2.5km if you don't use comms? I certainly can't. 50% of the time I dive on friendly aircraft.
Anyway, it seems that this server will be fun, and Monguse has promised for DiD in the near future http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Guse,

Was you able or going to be able to use SC or the like, and force loadouts, and the skins to the mission?

It would be real cool to force only the downloaded skin packs, no defaults or any other skins showing up.

Monguse
09-05-2007, 08:49 AM
We are using IL2C for the simple fact we can pinpoint on a target out of many that needs "special care" and enforce or remove load outs as required.

As far as enforcing a specific skin IL2C can't do that at the moment. I'm hoping my request of user skin notification is written to the eventlog as it is currently written out to your user settings.ini file.

That change alone if included in a patch will allow servers to enforce specific skins and markings.

For now, I'm allowing everyone that registers the opportunity to hold their end of the bargain (download the skin pack and use it). If they find someone that does not, let us know and they'll get kicked.

The server goes live tonight. Anyone interested will need to register or re-register.

We will announce when we go DID.

Just took my first flights on Warwings. Due to the hour there weren't a lot of pilots there, but from what I saw, I can say that I like the server.

If you're in Australia like me, you'll be happy with the comparatively low ping. Usually I can't do better out of this country than 260ms, but I was at 230 at Warwings.

Excellent work. Now, if I can just arrange my lifestyle around the hours flown by everyone else!

It really does seem like an entirely wasteful and unnecessary method of entering a game. Or rather, preventing you from entering a game. Hope they drop it soon.

Monguse

Give it another try

For instance when I join the game the server starts prompting for password. As an example:

I join as TUSA/Monguse
Server says I need to log on so I type in the chat bar

<logon<MyPassword 'then press enter'

Then in the send menu I select #9 on my list 'To Server' (if it's not present make one by typing 'To Server'

1. ALL
2. MyArmy
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.To Server <--- Select this one

If you send it to ALL everyone will see it.

If you still have problems let me know via PM and we'll hopefully sort it out.

I'll be on comms tonight around 6:00 PM Eastern

As a hint, I place my password on one of the chat bar shortcuts. Hence, I press ` (chat) then the number which sends "<logon<MyPassword" to the chat bar followed by #9 in the second menu as noted above.

BTW: just tested during lunch and logon works. As a suggestion, you might try your pilot name. We'll look into it

Here's are some dumb question but I don't want to get it wrong and mess up my directories:

1. Where do I put the skins? e.g. there's no Beaufighter MkVI directory. Or do I create a 'mission' skin directory?

2. What are all the 1765450927426.bmp type files for and where do they go?

3. I want to try this out and have registered as klem. If it's what we like - and it looks like it except for the map icon being on - the rest of the squadron may join it. Do I just start a new 'life' be registering as 56RAF_klem?

ref ID'ing planes I wouldn't introduce icons. I know it can be hard with lower resolutions but the zoom helps and after practice even the silhouettes are recognisable apart from the well known Tempest/FW etc. If icons were introduced I wouldn't want to see anything more than plane type (FW190) in the smallest font possible - no other stuff creating daft long labels.

Looking forward to trying this.
