It most certainly has....can't imagine summer without it. Most in North America have it to accompany bbq meat, but a good one can be a main course in itself.

*I http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif potatoes*

Something to love about the German people.

Edit: Just realised, in Europe potaotes salad can be eaten warm or hot...in the USA and Canada it is usually cold hence the summer connection.

For me there are only two options, either cold or at room temperature but never warm. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

Also great to sausages http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Wooooah! Bessie http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif.....There's a BIG difference between how Germans make kartoffel salat and how Americans make Potato Salad.

Germans tend to make kartoffel salat with a vinegar base and thinly cut spuds...

Americans tend to lay on the fat by adding a cream or mayonaise sauce and adding a hard boiled egg or two (as well as some mustard seasoning).

The German Kartoffel salat is more like a true salad while the American version is ... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Don't know how it morphed into an American Potato salad ... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

Silent O is right. There is a big difference between American and German potato salad. I actually prefer the "yellow" potato salad because I like mustard.

The horror is when people add raw onions to the potato salad.

Well the "O" and a few of his long lost army buddies decided to have a lost weekend in Muchen. We drove down from Schweinfurt in a small rental car and we purchased one huge piece of Brot from a backerei to sustain us on our journey. We carried this huge brot into every bar and pub to eat. It was a big as a helmet. By the time we got to the HB Haus it was almost eaten and we'd had a few Masses of Beers in us. The band was tooting away when we decided to have target practice... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif The poor tuba player only had to turn his tuba over once to get a piece of bread out since we were all poor shots...We ended up falling asleep in the U-Bahn station, then getting kicked out by the polezei. We walked back to our car and fell asleep. (not that we had to do all this, we had money, we just wanted to rough it!). A fond memory.
