I don't know why, but my type IID has two entrances from the control room to the conning tower. Anybody else noticed this?

They must know of my past record where evasion is concerned, and given me an extra way out

Isn't the other one the "gun tower" hatch, i.e. for the use of the guncrew and to pass ammunition through? At a "Surface - Gun Action" two hatches are normally used, though I hadn't noticed one on my VIIB.

There was a forward hatch through from the PO quarters, there was also a hatch above the galley, aft.
Only one hatch from the control room, and this was the only one used on patrol.
Ammunition for the deck gun was stored in a watertight box on either side under the deck grates next to the deck gun.
AA ammunition was stored in the conning tower, the bridge was normally cleared of all personell during air attack

Now I'm baffled - UBoat.net says Type II - A, B, C or D - didn't have a deck gun... UBoat.net (http://www.uboat.net/types/iid.htm)

No, they didn't but the AA guns were positioned on the forward deck.
The type VII had deck gun, plus one AA on the tower
