View Full Version : Question about Pre-Order

I've never pre-ordered a game before so I got a question about it: Is it cheaper?

I mean, I was gonna buy the game through Steam as soon as it gets out, but if pre-order is cheaper, I rather do that.

No it's not cheaper, it's that you pre-order
you normaly pay the same price but pre-ording is securing a copy for you when it releases,
as AC2 or COD:Mw2 would be a big hit, thoese would be the games we should pre-order

So it's a way to secure those who gonna get an actualy in-box copy? If I intend to buy through Steam, I have nothing to worry about, right?

nope, cause that's an online version that's taken from a hard copy manafactured by Ubisoft,

Erm, I'm really sorry for my stupidity in this case, it's just that I've never ordered a game online...

So when I buy a game from Steam, they are "also" buying a box-game and just upload it and throw it away? I don't get it...

And sorry for my ignorancy (sometimes I have trouble understanding the real meaning of an English sentence since it's not my native language) but do I need or need not worry about the game being sold out if I intend to buy through Steam?

when a game comes out they will be sent a list of CD key's by the publisher (or for games that dont need key's thiis doesnt count) then when you buy a game on steam it aplies a key to your account and links the game to your steam account, the key list will have a limit but since there is no need to manufacture anything they can get alot more key's than the stores can get boxes.

as for games that dont have CD key's steam links the game to your steam account on the server allowing you to play and install that game since your account has permissions, they can sell a infinite number of games if they have no cd key and it is impossible they will run out, as for every game purchased they just have to pay the fee to the publisher/developer.

but generaly the main reasojn to pre order on steam is because if you pre order they often let you download the game data up to a week before launch, meaning once the game launches you ahve all the data and they just put out a small patch that unlocks the game allowing you to play it, were if you purchase the game the day it comes out on that day you have to wait for the entire game to download to your PC.

Thanks a lot Cas! I owe you big time for this http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif, finally I understand what this all Steam means.

One final question, I saw that right now you can only pre-order through Play.com, so when we come close to releasing date, Steam will probably offer a pre-order too? Meaning I'm sure to have a copy if there's a list of cd-keys and I can download the EXE file easily when the game comes out?

Play.com is the only place in UK/Europe that you can pre order assassin's creed 2 black edition.(correct me if I'm wrong)

Assassin's creed 2 is available in heaps of other places for example EBgames offer the black edition for Australia and New Zealand.

Or if you just looking for the normal game I'm pretty sure you can get from GameStop, Amazon, Games Warehouse, there heaps of places.

And I'm sure even more will pop closer to the release date and steam should have pre order up and running soon.On the steam assassin's creed 2 page it has "Available this Fall"so my guess look around for it this fall http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hi, i have a question about the pre-order as well. I see that the bonus content is available for Xbox360 and PS3 but I didn't see any info when i searched Gamestop for the PC edition. If there is no bonus map with a pre-order for PC I am actually less likely to want to do that now. Does anyone know if there will be the bonus map available later or is it a console only thing and us PC gamers are left in the dark on a very cool add on map?

So does anyone actually know when/if it will be available for pre-order on Steam? I know I *can* wait, but I'm impatient haha and I don't want a physical copy because I'm notorious for losing things lol.
