This afternoon the Bf 109 G-10 "black 2" of EADS heritage Flight made a crash landing at the Berlin Airshow. Probably it was a landing gear problem, pilot Walter Eichhorn is unhurt.

Oh not another one!

My chances of seeing a 109 in the air are getting smaller all the time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Still, at least no-one was hurt. Got any footage/links???

Damn... If only there where more around.

At least the pilot is ok. By the way, is Walter Eichhorn the only pilot that flies the G-10?

That`s a pretty interesting scene though, isn`t it? I`ve seen crashlanded Spits, hurris and even P51s but never a real present-day crash landed 109! You could almost imagine it just returned from a difficult sortie.

Glad the pilot`s unhurt.

I live in USA, Florida and there are several aircraft museums in florida but the only one that i liked was "Fanesty of Flight" its always restoring old warbirds like the F7F, mig17, b17, p47 bf109, fw190. theirs also 1 aircraft I thought they never made a trainer of it is a p40 weird right i though he converted it but he said he has the offical papers on it. hes the link to the web page.

Doesn`t look too bad at all, they will probably fix it soon enough... I guess its some sort of a hydraulics failure.

There`s a glider airfield not too far away from me, you`d be amazed how many 'garage repairs' are being done there, and small accidents like this happen all the time. Last time I saw them fix an old rotten down car`s (that they were using to get the gliders into the air) exhaust pipe that was leaking.. flip car on its side with a couple of fellas... grab a blowtorch.. and flip it back. Done in 5 minutes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Schwarz.13, if there were more 109's they would just crash more of them. I think 1/3 rd of all 109 write offs in WW2 were landing and take-off mishaps. If I owned one I would only fly it out of grass strips and into the wind for landing and take-off.

Verdammt!

Always hurts to hear this kind of news. Thank God Walter is OK.

My impression is that EADS is quite a solid operation so hopefully Black 2 will be airworthy soon.

Kurfurst__ ... you a glider pilot too? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

cya around

It was a hydraulics failure on the left gear. It collapsed while the 109 already was pretty slow and caused only very minor damage.

A spokesman from the EADS-Team just said, that happened a lot with 109s and WW2 aircraft in general.

Which reminds me, that I'd really like to see mechanical failures or fatigue in BoB. Makes it more interesting http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I saw the video on the news and it dosent look to bad, I asked my grandfather (flys a cessna but where almost done with our rebuilt F6f) and he said the gear lock or hydralcis failed.
(srry about spelling)

Thats correct.
The right main landing gear's gearlock failed.
Eichhorn was able to keep it in control pretty good though.

... here is the video of the "crash" (posted by Vike on the French forum)

Looks like crash is due to right undercarriage failure

Thanks for posting http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Appears to have been an excellent landing. And the engine was not damaged.

Good news for 109-haters.... Fortunately it didn't seem bad. It will be flying again.

What?!

Who on earth would think that a rebuilt warbird being damaged through technical failure and/or landing/take-off accident is good news?!

If they did, then they deserve to have their childish arses severly kicked! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Give us a break. Anytime one of these classic birds gets into trouble, it's bad news by any measure.
