I am looking at what we are getting in the patch and I was thinking of doing something a little more different then ussual. What do you guys think. Have real scinarious like Axis vs Allied with planes used in the battle or keep it the way it is adding a couple desert missions? I have also thought of putting dogfight maps in between the bomber maps in the rotation. Locust suggesteed an all bomber map with no fighters. Need suggestions!

the only reason i don't fly on your server, that i ping well to, is the server difficulty settings. i'd care to wager that if you set your setting to match the ones of say, Warclouds or Greater Green, you'd get a lot more patrons. that goes for you other server admins out there too

LOL, I cant get in my own damn server half the time as it is. As for settings i like externals with locked pit no icons with proper planes facing each other. But I try to set it for the newer peeps. I have alot of newer guys in the squad.

new pilots flying those setting would reflect , somewhat, the different skill levels of pilots that flew back then, yes?

Say what ?

We fly fullhardness settings....

We also fly non fullhardness settings...

Each takes skill, differant skills in each style.

Hi!

I don't fly online very often but if I do 161st is one of the servers I am looking for. Usually it's full. ;-)

I like: Limited planesets, not related to the exact mission but to theater and year. I'd love to see some early war setups.

I don't like the idea of all bomber or dogfight only maps. You don't gain anything, but you will lose a lot of options with these maps. No interception, no fighter-bombing, no escort...

HL is telling me at the time of me typing this that;
-cockpit is off
-externals on
-icons on
-padlock on
-map on
-speed bar on

it must be coinsidence that every time i check the status of the server i get those settings instead
of "full hardness"

my apologies, i'll check more often to see when these difficulty settings have been changed
to "full hardness" instead of the current settings.

So Locust, i guess the real question, assuming that keeping the server
full is the goal, is it the settings that bring people to the server or the maps/scenarios?

Its both. Settings and senario.

161ST is my favourite server, its fun, accessible and has a great fan base.

I dont think there is any need to turn this into a snidey full real debate. dry your eyes about settings and play elsewhere. I know for a fact that most of the guys who play 161st do so for it settings and the fun factor, wilst retaining realistic flight, please dont respond with somemore realisim rubbish, u werent in the war and thankfully never will be.

as for senarios, i do like the idea of more scripted target based missions, with specific goals and a competitive purpose.

as for settings, externals. but cockpit locked.

Apologies, I should have said 'continue to fly elsewhere'.

Believe me i have the greatest respect for full real players, but i just dont want to lose one of my favourite servers to settings i cant handle!

Me too.
Its pretty full most of the time and I dig cockpit and externals....I cant find the dam runway in a 190,P.11, Gladiator or jug without an outside view!

Agreed, The settings are good: they keep it fun for those of us who can't spend our entire lives practising for 'over-real' settings (the ones that lock you in a blanked out cockpit with a 15 to 20" square window that you have to manually slew around in the middle of a dogfight - it's massively, admirably skillful, but it ain't realistic..)

All bomber map could be fun. How about an all jet or all biplane one? There seems to be very little 'jet action' online. There are enough out there now to make it an interesting proposition, for those who want to try them out against other people.

Settings are ok.

But more historic scenarious would be cool. Desert 42 and 43 for example, Operation Torch comes to mind. Kuban Bridgehead, Kursk, Circus Operations of the RAF into France 41. Later the Dieppe Landing. Solomons, Early and mid war brit-jap engagements etc etc. Lots of scenarious possible. But please not so many 44/45 scenarious...those are done to death.

Since AEP I have only flown on your server when you have had "cockpit on". Personally,I found that your settings, plane selection, etc... were fine and the server was fun. Just keep the cockpit on http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I dont mind the settings. although sometimes I rather enjoy cockpit on, its always nice to alternate the settings after sometime. I like the server because I get to have fun alot. When I have flown quite a few VEF I feel the need to relax a bit and I look for the 161st_Dedicated. So what if there are noobs there, this server was one of the first I flew when I was a noob and before I joined my squad. I learned a lot in there, and got a lot of advice as well. The maps are fun, and challenging. So back to topic I would say keep settings as usual but alternate the cockpit and externals on and off so everybody can have fun, noobs and vets. Oh and I would like to see plane sets in year era, but thats just me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I have a pretty sweet setup here. I have 3 pcs connected to the house server. The house server is also the dedicated server. Its a 2800xp with 2 gigs of ram on 1500k x 400k dsl located in West Virginia. The reason it's not so good sometimes is when my kids decide the 200 Barbi games they have arn't enough that theey got to play online. Full of spyware and all kinds of BS http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif. Also sometimes if I need to upload something to a site it will spike the server. For another $80 a month I could get the 768k x 7000k but this is making me broke as it is. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Your server is definately one of my favourites. I'd prefer cockpits on, but I can live with it, as it is.

The only thing, I'd like to change is the fact, that it is always full when I want to join http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

An all bomber map? Sounds like fun, but could be very boring after a while.

Historical planesets are a nice thing, too. They don't have to be too restricting, but something like limiting the involved nations and the maximum date, this would be a very welcome alternative to all the La7 vs Ki84-servers.

I like your server for the most. I do have some lag problems on it. I don't care what scenario you run as long as you don't mix uber planes and non-ubers. It's frustrating (and unrealistic) to try and fly your favorite from 1943 when there are a bunch of super 44+ planes in the game too.

JG6_Oddball
05-10-2004, 02:29 PM
smokey be real carful with the objects you put in , I made on map with 2 battle ships fireing on nearby nases and a 50 tank battles on the north of the map the lag was so bad it was unplayable http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif maybe you can try what I am doing, a 6 map rotaion starting with 1939 go to 40 to 41 ...etc and each map will have plane sets of the year, if you fly RED you fly russian..BLUE you fly german, try to use smaller maps and have your objects respawn every 10 mins. If you have or can get an old 433mhz (or around there) they make great dedicated TS servers.
