View Full Version : OT: ATI users -> Water tip for perfect mode

Hi all!

I've got a ATI 9800 Pro (128 Mb), and when I ran PF in perfect mode for the first times, I had 2 options:
- 'black water' and reasonable FPS (water = 0, or water = 1)
- 'blue wafer' with low FPS, and then the sea looks more like a fishing pond on a quiet summer morning than a real ocean. (wafer = 2)

Solution (or suggestion) set in conf.ini file:
1. water = 2
2. ForceShaders1x = 1

Result: frame rate is about the same as it was before installing PF. Also: the water color is now nicely blue and looks more like what I was used to. Drawback: there's no surf on the beach...

If you put water = 0 in combination with ForceShaders1x = 1, then the water looks like silver... but the FPS take another jump (about 25% in BlackDeathTrack!!!)... If someone has a tip on how to get the wafer color back to blue and keep the gain in FPS: please let us know.

Good luck!

PS: ForceShaders1x = 1 was recommended for GeForce cards (see manual), but it also seems to works for ATI-cards (well, at least, it worked for mine).

Which drivers are you using? I don't have that problem, I'm on a 9700Pro (128mb) which is a very close cousin to the 9800. I run on Water=0 for best performance...and its fine.

Currently I am using Cat 4.9 (Unian)... In AEP I tried the adviced 4.1's but that decreased FPS by about 25%... So I switched back.

Are the Cat 4.10 Ok?

This is with water=1, ForceShaders1x=1

Has the addition of PF to IL2FB/aep changed the water in the IL2 maps...i have PF as stand alone for the moment...i prefer the water in IL2 and dont want to lose it.

Sorry, but in many cases I can't see the images that are being 'shown'... (web browser related?) The Thread that you pointed out before was an exception.

BTW: as you might have seen in the README - file:

Driver versions 4.3 €" 4.7 are not recommended. Flickering polygons may appear, and the game may occasionally lock up.
For x800 series cards with Catalyst 4.8. The following problems may occur:
- Dark color of animated water in Perfect regime, with conf.ini setting of Water=0 or Water=1
Solution: use conf.ini setting of Water=2. Water color will be normal, but the game may run slower.
- Glass reflection may disappear when glass in near the edge of your screen
- Some delays may appear during the game

I have neither this card, nor these drivers, bust still got the extremely dark water... And that made me try something different (and, hey: it worked!)

The 4.10's work very well with the 9700 Pro's. Not sure about other Radeons though.
