Whatever happened to knights of the sky??

Seems the website is down? Is the project still ongoing?
Hope they have not cancelled it?

They announced on their website, that there were some major changes coming. Maybe this is how it starts?

The project seems to be going strong. There was a new video released from a pretty nice looking beta on youtube just a few weeks ago.

Wow... it died. Recently, if I may add.

When they decided to forget the IL2 engine, that they could do better making everything new;

they bit off perhaps more than they thought to chew. It happens often in the industry.

Even with all the finished work the IL2 engine had they still had perhaps 2 or 3 years work
to make a WWI version. Funny but it's usually the non-programmer "managers" I have seen that
push the to-do list to insane length while cutting the deadlines at the same time.

Why do you think it is dead? Because there are no frequent updates and no website?

And if this is a bad sign, what about SoW:BoB. It's been a long time, since I saw a new movie from that and a website? So it must have bit off more than they thought, too, and there is no SoW?

Looks promising!

I wouldn't say dead. Just taking much longer to chew the mouthful they bit off than anticipated.
When you are trying to maintain a payroll much less a web presence it becomes hard to stay up to
a full time pace but that depends on how deep the pockets that keep the effort going are or even
if there are such pockets. A dedicated team can work on their own time but few can put in the
hours needed for more than a back-burner pace in such an effort.

That's true for 99% of the games on the current market, console or PC. To be honest, it's true for most, if not all projects.

Judging ONLY from the fact that the website went down, is therefore not a valid clue, IMHO. As I posted above, I know another project that has neither a website, nor a forum and you don't have any valuable news for much longer than from KotS.

KOTS is organizing under a new unfinished website. The KOTS has shown more advanced screenshots and movies than any other prop combat sim in development. Does this mean its dead..nope..does this mean is further ahead in development than other sims..nope..But it does indicate that things are progressing nicely. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I just know from experience that certain patterns of management will put results off or even
send them off to never-never-land. Setting goals for gains too far is one of those.

Well good to hear, but it would be nice if the fellows put up a message on their homepage that the forum (their communication channel to the community so far) is down - permanently or temporarily - a non-up-to-date-webpage is a excellent way to make the community nervous http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The news page of that forum suggests a possible release of the game Q4 this year.

Nope chugging along slowly but more honestly than BoB, my money will be saved for KOTS. I think BoB is going to blow smoke.

I agree Hawgdog...with moving weather patterns implemented in SOW, smoke should be far more animated than it currently is in IL-2. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'm patiently waiting for the next WW1 flight-sim for some very important reasons -

1. - I want to be able to appreciate my target's cool paint job from 30 feet away while he disintegrates into flames.

2. - We need more stuff to argue about - like interrupter gears, machine gun rates of fire, quality of German adhesives, why Voss didn't disengage, who used incendiary ammo first, how many meters per second = "climbs like a monkey", which fighter turns better to the right in humid weather at 6,000 feet, did Germans recce a/c really fly at 23,000 ft, how many D.VII-Fs really saw service at the front.

3. - I want to forget about prop pitch, complex engine management, blower shift altitudes, radiator settings, retractable landing gear and just fly and shoot.

Man, I'm itching so bad .... where's that Calamine lotion?

Would be hilarious if they model early war scouts eventually... they used all stuff to reach and grab their oppos, pistols, even hooks... that's a dogfight! http://www.acompletewasteofspace.com/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif

And not this sissy WW2 stuff with gazillion of LMG's/HMG's & couple of 20mm's...

..... Only necessary if flying an a/c with an in-line engine. Rotaries had a total-loss castor oil lubricating system (well, on the allied side, at least) so you were ingesting plenty of castor oil all during the flight and were presumably "ready at a moment's notice".

Not having to set and remember more than a dozen keys just to fly.
