At least that's the rumor anyway. There is a forum at the history channel which has several people indicating the show has been canceled.

http://boards.historychannel.com/forum.jspa?forumID=800000053

Nobody knows if they'll finish up season 2 or when will be the last show or if it's even true. People have contacted the history channel and the official response has been they have no plans to cancel the show. However there are some good sources (people who work with the animators) who have indicated it is true.

I hate starting/spreading rumors (this one is worth spreading even if it's wrong), but if anyone is interested in the show, contact history channel via the email below to express interest in the show. Maybe there's a chance the high up execs will reconsider. If it's not canceled, maybe they'll be motivated for a season 3 with all the support.

I like the show. I like the way they explain with their little graphs what tactics the pilots used to stay alive.

The episode with the A1-H where the A1's were being chased by Migs was a good one.

Those pilots must have felt like rabbits being chased by wolves.

Listening to the pilots recount their own stories is very interesting.

-------------------

Sure you're going to get more from the American side, because it's American produced for American audiences in English.

I'm sure there is/has been similar stuff produced from other points of view, it's just not be played to American audiences.

If it was German or Japanese made I'm sure it would dwell on the victories of their respective planes and pilots. Plus factor in that it's mostly Americans watching it. And as an American I can vouch for the fact that most of us will want to see how our pilots destroyed the enemy. Plus it's a lot easier for american producers to get ahold of old Americans aces, who can recount their tales. We have more easily accessible info on what happened to our pilots.

Unless you count the episode that was entirely from the German and Japanese pilots point of view.

Or the ones with the Israelis.

In fact, this season the episodes go about 50%, not 90%. But then that wouldn't fit your little narrow minded anti-American narrative would it?

Not to mention the WWI episode coming up soon which will feature German aces Ernst Udet and Werner Voss.

Additionally, there is an episode this season about the Falklands War.

Yeah! I saw the Israeli episodes flying those Mirage aircraft.

I like it for the dogfights and pilot comments.

Only seen bits of it on YouTube, never felt it was too "all American" (well, of course it IS an American show, so bloody what?). Never thought it was perfect but it is interesting. And as an Italian living in the UK I am not exactly shy when it comes to point out any undue flag-waving from across the pond. But it is not repeat not a bad show and it would be a pity if it gets axed.

Yea I know. I was watching one episode about on the deck dogfights and they said 190 can out manuver a P-51 on the deck. History channel said it so it must be wrong. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Tv's only purpose is to be entertaining enough to keep enough people watching to sell ads to companies that don't yet realize that the television commercial is a dinosaur.

So, discussing the history channel in general and the dogfight show specifically like it has anything to do with reality is a joke.

If you want history, go to your local library and read a book!

Funny, the last episode I watched was the one with Werner Voss and a couple other WWI engagements and they continually advertised with the lead-in "If you're a fan of the incredibly popular History Channel show Dogfights...".

Unless there's a specific liability involved (and even then it's moot sometimes), then show popularity is THE driving force behind a show's longevity.

It would seem they would be contradicting themselves...wouldn't it? I doubt it's going off before they at least complete season 2.

I also love that show. I like to watch it while I'm playing and try some of the stuff.

There was one episode where some SBD-3's were being attacked by some Zeros. The SBD-Pilot used his smaller turning radius and rudder left/stick right to slide throwing the Zero's aim off. I just had to try that, and it was pretty fun and did work!

lol...we just went around and around with that in Corsair0772's 'anyone, please help.' thread. Buzzsaw, Corsair, and myself were trading tracks back and forth trying to emulate what the SBD did.

Too funny.

Oh...

I watch a couple of hours a year.

Depends what's being blown up that year, of course.

I watched nearly a full hour in one sitting on 9/11. But then, the footage was raw at first. As soon as the edits started, off went the tube.

Yes, you do get different information from different stat sheets for almost every planes in World war two. But I do believe thet the P51 had a slight smaller radius of turn than the Me109. Just a enough to make a difference of who would win or lose a dogfight.

I've noticed that the "Dogfights" series are usually kind of cheesy but the soundtrack is pretty good - take a look at the beginning of this episode for example:

Anyone knows who composes the music and whether it's downloadable somewhere?

It's not being cancelled. Check the link at the top of this thread, the first thread says as much. I think the rumor got started because they messed with the schedule a bit, they moved it to Thursdays at 10pm. I was wondering the same thing at first, since I don't recall seeing an ad for the move to Thursdays.

There's going to be a Flaklands episode? Awesome! I've been on a big Flaklands kick lately. I'm reading "The Battle for the Falklands" by Max Hastings and Simon Jenkins right now, and I watched that two-part documentary that was on Discovery Civilization called "The Falklands War".

I just watched the one with the P-51D vs FW190 the other day, and part of the WWI episode, both on Comcast On Demand. I need to finish the WWI episode, though. Both were great, Dogfights is one of my favorite shows.

I just read through this and noticed the SBD 3 episode you were talking about. How did you end up doing that correctly? Like Crash_Moses said, we all swapped ntrks of our dogfights, pretty challanging thing to bring all them down. I am a big fan of the show, so I am glad it is not being canceled. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I just looked at the Dogfights entry on Wikipedia, it had the schedule for the rest of the season. I'm looking forward to it, much more then last season.

I just hope they do no give up on the Pacific Theater. I hope they will continue to give us the whole prospective and angles for Doghfighting and from as many historical prospective as possible.

My favorite show so far has been the one on World war one and the one on Guadacanal. Having said that the whole series I believe has been great!

What is really incredible is that the SBD pilot fought off three Zero"s and won the fight!!
Yep that is right he flew his arse off and came out ahead.
Hec I have a hard time doing that in a Corsair!
It really goes to show what a great pilot can do in an underdog aircraft, the gods of flight were shining down on that fellow that day.
I really hope the show sticks around for a good long while.
There are plenty of stories around for them to do so. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

super71957, funny that you should metion that, as I am sure you have read the posts in here. My self , Crash_Moses and Buzzsaw1939 went back and forth with that one. You can view the movie on my "anyone, please help" on page 14 at the very bottom. I did post my attemt at 3 Zeros in a SBD and after many attemps, I got it. I recorded it with my digital camera and tried to make it look like a movie.(pretty cheesy, I know) If you want to see that too, go to page 18
and its about 3/4 down the page... part 1, part 2, part 3.

But a real life pilot would miscalculate your trajectory and miss. Not sure if that is modeled in the game. Depends on how the AI pilots gunsights are calculated.

P-51's can turn! No way! No how! Any movement made under 400mph ends with a wild flat spin and death! Heck any turns or banks made at any speed on a 51 ends in a flat spin!

I think the mustang has about the same turning radioous as the spit. it can definetly turn inside a 109 or 190.
