View Full Version : Is there a significant performance hit taking mk108s with FW190 A8/9?

Hi guys

Loving the FW more and more, big guns so I can hit things...

I like the A6 best so far as it seems to have a nice compromise between agility and power. If I take the A8/9 and inevitably take the MK108, the planes feel heavier and more prone to stall. Is this down to the heavier later FW models or simply the addition of the MK108?

Im sure i could test this but my flying time is limited, and i like to ruminate on such matters in work!

Also ive not really had much of a shot on the D models, do they retain their agility?

maybe come friday this will be a bit moot since the MG 151/20 with be like power hammers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

thanks

Like any other planes that utilise gunpods, the drop in performance is significant. The agility, especially turnrate, suffers the most, but since FW 190 isn't really a turnfighter it won't matter much.
The drop in speed and acceleration is not as notable as the drop in agility but since the FW 190 is very dependent on speed and the A-8/9 is already a bit slower than contemporary fighters, it's indeed an inpediment.
My advise is only to use the Mk 108 if you're sure you're going up against heavy bombers. The default armament of the FW is more than enough to take down most fighters. If you're a good marksman you might even consider removing the outer pair of MG 151 to increase performance, you still have 250 rounds in the inner pair, enough for 3-4 kills.

Oh: and do go fly the D-model too, it's not as agile as the early models As but definately better than the A-8 and a lot faster!

I think it has slight decrease in acceleration, and climb (very small though), top speeds are the same, but takes slightly more time to get there with mk108s.. though i would imagine it should not have any noticable impact, after all it's only about 20 kg more weight on the wings.

Unless Oleg has modelled it's perfomance from Sturmbock-variant with mode armor (though i can't feel the extra armor in the game http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif )

Doras are much better, than the ANtons offcourse, higher topspeed, better acceleration ,turn better.. until now i have preferred the Antons over Doras due to weak MG151/20, but after the patch i would imagine Dora becoming superior compared to Antons http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
