I have the "Gold Pack". Yes it is worth getting if you have any interest in air combat of the second world war. I've been using flight sims for near on fifteen years now and the IL2/FB series is easily the best. The "Gold Pack" has two disks. One disk is the original FB game. The other disk is the Ace's Expansion Pack, which is an addition to the original FB game. You may initially have problems getting the 2nd disk to load, but the problem has been covered by the good people in the forums. After that, you will want to download the latest version of the game, 2.04 I think. Anyway, hope this helps and happy flying.

If you're talking about the original IL-2, the one before FB, then you have no real reason to get it. Unless you like collecting flight sims.
There's some will argue it's better than FB but I would disagree and I think most here would too.
You will have the original FB in the gold pack + Aces. What more do you need?
Get it and be prepared to give up everything else you do, at least for a little while.

If you have FB, you have Il-2. It's more or less an expanded version of it. In Il-2 you'll find less planes, less technical options -such as graphics, and no dynamic campaigns. You'll find some linear mission and campaigns not present in FB, a less demanding engine -with better framerates- and different FMs and DMs -which some think are better than the ones we have now, but I rather think it's a matter of taste.

No real reason to buy it, unless it's cheap and you are a sim lover that collects them -just like me.

IL2 is and always will be a good product. It is so cheap now that if you have the extra $10-$20 why not. I dont think you will fly it more than FB but it is kind of nice to go back to the original for S&Gs. The sounds are a tad different and the graphics are a bit different. So are the FMs. Personally I think the FB FMs are more accurate but some disagree... both of them are great sims though.

You should get CFS3 too, while you're at it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Got both, play both, love both.

In recent months, my playing time re these two has been over 90 percent FB/AEP and less than 10 percent IL-2, but that's fair enough because apart from the improvements and expansion available to FB, I'd already played the bejesus out of the original before the new one came along. From time to time though, I still go back to IL-2 and enjoy it, as I do with some other slightly older sims.

IL-2 (the original) is now available very cheaply. If you've any inclination to still want it after all that's been said, you might as well get it, so long as you're not short of space on your hard drive. It does have what you might call a slightly different 'feel' (preferred by some) and a number of interesting missions and campaigns, different from those in FB/AEP.

On the other hand, if you're only going to get one or the other, FB/AEP is the way to go!

Your call!

Confession: (Brace yourselves!) I've also got CFS3 and I think it's OK.

"Burn, heretic!.... Burn!"

IMHO CFS2 is best one of CFS series (it has that little 'something' http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif). I've played CFS3 but I did not enjoy it as much as CFS2. Excellent sim. But IL-2 is way, way better.

hippy-dude IL-2... I doubt that you will play that game when you see IL-2 FB/ACES. A lot of new features included since original IL-2. Like other guys mentioned, there is no need for IL-2 original other than to complete your chosen "flight sims - TOP 10 ever" collection.

Well, the original IL-2 was great, and if you have it now, you can pretty much run it maxed out trouble free on a relatively mid level PC, so it looks great, and flies great!! Online, there are even still the odd few servers up, so you can fly about there, but for about 7.00 why not get it when you've got the cash?

whit ye looking at, ya big jessie?!?!
