I found if i hit the engine room, aim as low as possible, it costs 5~8 shells to sink a small merchant ship. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

For other kinds of cargo ship, do you have some experience to show me? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(1)Small merchant ship: 5~8 shells
(2)C2 Cargo: ?
(3)C3 Cargo: ?
(4)T2 Tanker:?
(5)T3 Tanker:?
(6)Others.

If i choose to hit fuel tank instead of engine room, will it save me some shells? I suppose fuel can explode. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Looking forward to hearing your comments!
Best Regards!

Kevin,

I took down a T2 tanker with my deck gun last night with approximately 30 shells. It was a perfectly calm night, and he had no escort, so I wanted to save my torpedo. I was using a Type IX with the 10.5 cm gun.

Hit them with five or six shots below the waterline in each of the cargo areas, and they are pretty well done for. A few shots in the stern or in the engine room will provide you a disabled vessel.

If you are using the smaller gun on a Type VII, you will need to use a few more rounds. I'd put ten in each of the cargo areas.

Targetting the fuel bunkers is a possibility. I don't usually bother. I prefer to use my ammo for a gauranteed kill rather than rely on a random "boom" chance. Besides, if a Destroyer interrupts my play, odds are waterline shots will still sink the target even while I'm on escape and evade.

I know this is a bit off-topic (well, maybe not), but I have felt for some time now that in vanilla SH3, they reduce ballistic efficiency in an effort to model the relatively poor gun platform provided by a U-boat: ?.This is not entirely realistic.

In the game, your 20mm is essentially worthless against ships, when the reality is somewhat different. If you have a smooth sea, and a relatively close range target, two or three hundred rounds of 20mm should make a small merchant sound like a Harmonica, if the wind is blowing from the right direction! (?.And I?m sure you can visualize how well a Harmonica floats!) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

The same is true of the larger guns: .......given favorable conditions, which allow for good shot placement, there is no way that it should take 15 to 30 hits from a 105mm to sink a three or four thousand ton vessel. (By ?Good Shot Placement? I mean waterline hits, engine room hits, and fuel bunker hits.)

Fortunately, this problem can be adjusted with the ?SH3 Mini Tweaker?!

Depends on the ship, but as a rule of thumb it is in front of the engine room which extends towards to bow about 1m from the funnel.

Small merchant ship: 6~8 shells. (88mm)
C2,C3,T2,T3: Almost the same 20~25shells.

Aim at engine room below waterline, aim as low as possible. Make sure yo can hit the engine room.

Where can I get this "mini tweaker" and how do I use it?

Go to Timetraveller's site.

http://www.delraydepot.com/tt/sh3sdk.htm

You can download Mini Tweaker, as well as some other useful tools.

When you download the tweaker, make sure you download the folder of "tweak files" that go with it. They are script files that go with the utility, and relate to the specific items you're changing.

To use the program, just launch the tweaker and load the tweak file that is appropriate. You are then presented with a screen that allows you to alter values without all that tedious messing around with hexidecimal values, and direct hex editing.

It makes a programming idiot like me look as though he knows what he's doing!

Just remember: ....Any time you are changing values in data files, you should first make sure that you have a backup of your original files safely tucked away!

Ckick Here for Hit Zones (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/9371060315) Dietrich-34.F has good links with color coded charts for hit zones for all stock ships. I suggest printing them out.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
