I got kicked out of the girlfriend's house (for leaving a crumb of cereal in the dishwasher) so I restarted my SH3 career at my place.

It's so much fun to go into the game with all the knowlege of a veteran!

So anyway, my first mission was a tough one! I was ordered to patrol an area relatively close to Hartlepool.

In my patrol grid I found a C2. It was traveling "slow" and "away." I surfaced and approached it as close as I could then submerged. I was about two KM away and lined up an attack. Direct hit! I manage to knock off its props. The C2 continues to travel at 5 knots for what seems to be forever. It finally slows to 4 knots, 3, etc... I line up a perfect attack from one KM away. KABOOM! The boat doesn't flinch AT ALL! How disappointing. So far I've hit the props and just below the smoke stack with impact torpedos. I aim the third one at the bow in hopes of creating as many holes in the vessel as possible. The torp does its job and the C2 slowly catches fire.

And burns...

And burns some more...

What the hell!? SINK ALREADY!

I turned on time compression and hoped that no back up would arrive. I was lucky and the C2 finally sunk hours later.

What's with the difficulty early in the war?

I only got to early 1941 at my girlfriend's house, but it was extremely easy to sink anything. This C2 took three torps and still refused to go down!

Is it because the C2s at the very start of the campaign don't have explosive cargo?

Is it because the torpedoes are low-tech and not effective ship killers?

Am I not as skilled as I thought? Heheh

After leaving the scene of the sunken C2, I decided to check out Hartlepool for ships in my wittle type II. I only had two torpedoes left, but found a juicy T2 tanker at the docks. I squeezed my way into port and let my last two torpedoes go in a spread towards the T2.

KABOOM!

It didn't sink. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

It caught fire, but didn't even take on any water at all! I didn't want to hang out in an enemy port so I high tailed it out of there and hit the escape button (I'm not a fan of the ride home).

I assume the T2 was empty and had no fuel because it was docked.

Oh, it was extremely stormy and the fog was intense. I could only see 400 meters.

Although disappointed at the number of torps it took to sink the C2 and the fact that the T2 didn't sink at all, I was still pretty happy to be so successful in the fog (thanks to my external cam, heheh).

I don't think I'll ever get tired of this game. I'll post screenshots later (I'm at work).

Hi
The C2 have the new secret hull design to be anti torpedos its sturdy hull is strong like a battleship so dont try to sink one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif yea the C2 are very hard to sink some times it takes 3or4 torpedos(mix of under keel and impact)it happen to me http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif and still it not sunk and left me with out torpedos also on a IId uboat

I hate duck boats. Only 5 fish total.

Yeah, I hated them after I got a type VII. Now that I've restarted, though, I get a kick out of the little boats. Although I play at 56% realism, I take tons of time to get my shots just right since every torpedo is valuable.

Here's some pics of my first mission:

The fire crawled up to the front of the ship too, but I never got to see it sink (if it ever did).

Anyone know what this poster says?

What about this one?

For C2's I find a torp just under the fuel area (just ahead of the bridge, and that's with magnetic trigger of course) can sink it in one shot sometimes, 1 out of 3. If that doesn't work, another torp set to 5m impact (more or less depending on how far it has sunk down) in the same area always does it for me.

I don't know German, but I think the first one says something like, "As we fight, you work for victory." My guess for all it is worth. I can't say anything about the second one.

The second Poster €" €˜Staubwolke und Neptun€ €" I believe would transliterate; €˜Dustcloud and Neptune.'

My best guess is that it is some sort of German €˜war phrase€ meaning something akin€ to €˜War-cloud of Neptune€ (Latin form of Poseidon, god of the sea), and specifically made in reference to the Ubootwaffe.

All of this being nothing more than guess-work on my part€¦
I do love having and seeing such posters all around €˜town€ when in Port. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Best,
