It was a toss up between the 109 and the Spit for me. In the end I had to choose the 109. It's a plane you would rarely see flying around today. It's more unique. Maybe someday if I win the lottery, I'll have Flugwerk build one for me and learn to fly it. Of course if I had that much money I'd also get a Spitfire. Cheers.

P-38. Rare, high "cool" factor, redundant engines = safety

Haha sorry Uncle, its percentage wasn't as high as the others. I wish I was in Florida right now though, since its a lot warmer there where I am right now... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I only voted once, like I said I prefer the 262 but out of those five the Spitfire is definitely my baby!

What, no J8A? This is an outrage or perhaps a crime against humanity.

I saw a fly-bye by a Spitfire (i think it was a IX model), a Hurricane and a Lancaster at Cirby Hall a couple of years ago. The Spit is a beauty off coerce, and the Lancaster is fairly impressive, but I can't help preferring the old Hurricane. She has a sort of homely charm to her, and I think it's just one flyable one left.

In wartime, I would probably want something different, probably a late Spitfire, but for just flying around in peace-time, I'd go for the Hurricane.

Fly friendly!

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

IL2 Sturmovik, cos easy maintenence costs, not so much tolerance needed. Flat tire all I have to do is wrap rope around the wheels (yes they did that) and I can take off anywhere I want to and its a two seater so more fun http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A Navy blue Corsair would look great in my garage (especially since ITS wings fold neatly) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif A close second it the P38. I've come to really like flying that odd plane. Forgiving with a big punch. And if you loose an engine you can still limp home on the other. Tricycle gear makes taxiing, take offs, and landings easier than a tail dragger. It would be quite a challenge see my way to the end of the runway in the Corsair.

I never hear of the Grumman Bearcat...one of the meanest planes of the war. Maybe because of its late arrival onto the scene. Look into this plane sometime. An old friend I knew in Hawaii was a Flyer for the Navy in WWII. He spent his first 4 years as a flight instructor in aerial combat school in Florida before being shipped to the Pacific for his first taste of real combat, oddly enough. He said that he was assigned to an F8F before they were deployed to real units, and that the thing was unreal. It was the first plane he ever flew that could go vertical right after take off, and the thing had 4 20mm cannons, with top speed over 400MPH. I hope we see this come on the scene someday.

I voted for my only love: bf-109

Just can't get away from it. The others listed along with those mentioned here are also excellent. Just not my cup of tea. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
