Found a review:
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sim/worldwariisquadron/...tag=gs_&subj=6146551 (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sim/worldwariisquadron/review.html?part=rss&tag=gs_&subj=6146551)

I've never played "Heroes of the Pacific" which I think is by the same developers, but the review makes Blazing Angels sound more like a souped-up version of "Secret Weapons Over Normandy" than it does the IL-2 series.

I thought there was supposed to be cockpit views but I can't find any screenshots to prove that. I wonder why?

My buddy at work just bought it. Poor shmoo does all his flying on an Xbox. No cockpit view but there is a padlock and wingman controls. The graphics are supposed to be quite pretty.

(Flying on an Xbox... yeesh. I'd rather have my 486 back and fly Falcon 3.))

As you probably know, it's not so much flying as it is a 3rd person shooter with the ability to change your altitude. Taken as such it can be quite nice for a change, even for a hardcore sim pilot

I agree, this game is rediculus, dont spend the money or even waste the time on the demo. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Bah, you guys make me roll my eyes.

Yes, I agree Heroes of the Pacific (as well as Secret Weapons Over Normandy) is nothing compared to the IL-2 series, but you know what? It's different, and it's fun. Sure you can't actually land, but it's fun and it's a type of game which works for any basic gamer. I find a couple things about it a bit odd myself, such as lousy handling of the P-40, reloading ordanance, unlimited gun/cannon ammo, etc. Yes it's not realistic, but this forum is meant for the IL:2 series, which are flight sims, and Blazing Angels, Heroes of the Pacific, and Secret Weapons over Normandy are not. They are arcade-control flying video games.

HOTP and SWON also have descent stories in their backrounds and the characters of the games actually have independant attitudes, other than simply saying, "This is One! Da**! Clear my tail!," and "One, Good Shot! He's going to Hell!", etc. Characters of HOTP and SWON actually have their own distinctive speach patterns as well as voices, and the character you play as actually has his own attitude as well. And ya know what else, sometimes you kinda need a break from a complicated flight sim, and this is a great alternative.

A flying game does not need to be realistic to be fun. It is good to have both together, but it's a bit like chocolate. It's good, but if you eat it all day, you throw up.

When I played Secret Weapons Over Normandy after buying it, I found it fun actually because of how different it is from other games of simillar genre. It is very unrealistic, but that tends to make it even more fun, being different and all. The games are also challenging and often have great music. That's right, MUSIC! Don't expect to find that in IL-2 anytime soon, and even if you do listen to your own music while playing, it often simply doesn't quite fit with the actual play.

I'm not really criticising the IL-2 series, in fact it's the best flight simulator I've ever played. I'm simply defending Heroes of the Pacific, and Secret Weapons Over Normandy in a few ways, as these games are not flight sims.

Judging by what a lot of the people on this forum think of Heroes of the Pacific, I would hate to see what they think of Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge.

PS: Forget the PC ports of the games, they have bugs that the console versions do not have. Only go with the PC version if you do not have an Xbox or Playstation 2, and make sure you have a gamepad, since that's what the games are meant to be played with. This is why some guys think it's junk, flying with the keyboard and all. Actually, it can still be good even with a keyboard if you actually try to play the game. And the demo doesn't really give you a good idea of the game's play, it has no real sence of progress, since only the full version has the story. Multiplayer is fun as well, especially with the social contact on Xbox Live and Playstation Online. I haven't played Blazing Angels yet, but it looks and sounds really good.

HOTP was completely porked when it came to setting up the joystick controls as it would never accept rudder input and was flaky with many joystick configs. I hate flying anything with a keyboard (and as for a gamepad http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ). At least HOTP had attempted (badly) to include a cockpit, but Blazing Angels doesn't even have that. If its made by the same developers who created HOTP I would stay well clear of it as their game support is non-existent

You know what HOTP has that we don't?

Quite a few certain flyables. And no 'licensing fee' issues, despite being under the same publisher. I can personally verify this--I talked with them on the phone.

Fascinating, it is...

I have to step in and say this...Blazing Angels is BEAUTIFUL on the Xbox 360 in High Def, hope BoB will have as good or better graphics (though I doubt it won't be anything less than jaw dropping http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif)

Use only the keeboard and will be fine, I have had no probs. The joystick configuration is not working in the demo, I hope it does in the full version of the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Yes it`s not a sim but it is good fun to play and graphics are years ahead of IL2! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Tried the demo for PC. Picked up my stick with np.

However the game is just that a bloody arcade game and if you can say K R A P. Well that it is.

May appeal to some 10 yr old but for a simmer its garbage.

yes is arcade but you dont play it expecting a flight sim..you cant compare il2 and Ba..they are two different kind of game.

I don't think arcade-like sims are a bad thing. I think they have the potential of turning people on to real sims and that's definately a good thing. My first sim was the F/A-18 Korea demo and years later when I got my computer, MSCFS 1. When I ran across the IL2 demo, I was amazed. I watched the tracks and thought that they were not the actual game. I played an entire weekend before I actually figured out how to fly in the direction of combat. It was such a gorgeous sim, I stayed with it.

That's certainly true mate, but we also must accept that for some a good arcade flight game is all they will ever want in this genre.

Been hearing poor things about this title on the Xbox 360. Those who have it for this console please give us a review.
