We finished receiving confirmation of the news that already we have been coming suspecting for a long time: Oleg Maddox, father of saga IL2, after publishing IL2 Sturmovik recently: 1946, are going to develop and to publish two new expansions; in the first case, the Korean War (1950-53) with the MiG 15 and F-86 Sabre will recreate mainly called IL2 Sturmovik: Korea, and more ahead another expansion acclimated in Vietnam (1963-1973) with the title of IL2 Sturmovik: Vietnam, with among others the MiG 21 and the F-4 Phantom. In both cases the most well-known airplanes of conflicts stand out both, although there will be other incorporated developments of third. As much IL2 Korea as IL2 Vietnam will incorporate previous products, reason why we will have two expansions with:

- IL2 Sturmovik: Korea: formed by IL2 Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack + Pacific Fighters + Pe-2 + Manchuria + 1946 + patch 4.071m + Korea

- IL2 Sturmovik: Vietnam: formed by IL2 Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack + Pacific Fighters + Pe-2 + Manchuria + 1946 + patch 4.071m + Korea + Vietnam.

Image of the alpha of the new development of IL2 Sturmovik: Vietnam de Oleg Maddox

As far as publication, one has not inquired that can be bought separately. These two products will leave throughout 2007, and will allow to follow with the development of saga IL2 until the arrival of Wings of War: Battle of Britain, the new simulator of Maddox acclimated in Batalla of England, that will arrive at the end of 2007. The reason to develop these two expansions is the increasing enthusiasm of Oleg Maddox and his equipment by the reactors due to the last incorporations of airplanes like MiG 9 in expansion 1946. We waited for by far interest these two expansions, although, and it is important to have it in account, all those that have bought IL2 Sturmovik: 1946 will have to buy the Korea expansion and soon the Vietnam expansion to be able to enjoy, this time we hoped yes that, of all the complete saga. We will give you fulfilled information on these new developments.

Frankly, this would not surprise me. I bet Ubi/Maddox were stunned by the onslaught of new IL-2 players they got with 46, and, at the last minute, decided to extend IL-2. Cunning idea, but without 6 DOF it is a stupid idea. Rather than being cutting edge, like Microsoft's FSX, they are going to extend an obsolete system beyond its useful life. Idiocy.

My optimistic side says that the administrator of the linked website honestly believed a hoax or a Photoshopped 'wish pic' that originated in a forum like this one.

My pessimistic side says that the administrator decided to start the hoax himself.

As Skunk pointed out, the picture is clearly from Wings over Vietnam/Europe. IL-2's terrain isn't as uniform as that, and the lighting is different.

There is a Korea game being developed, but for SoW, not IL-2.

Either the webmaster is lying or he's getting confused with Whirlwind over Vietnam.

Grand Armee - 6DOF stands for 6 Degrees of Freedom - this is basically a simulation of the ability to 'crane' your neck in cockpit, i.e. to tilt your head slightly to the left/right or up to look over the nose of the plane, and such like. It was never modelled in IL2, and probably won't be - BOB SOW will incorporate this, though. A real pity IL2 doesn't have it, but I still live in the faint hope that one day, just maybe...when/if Oleg and Co. relax a bit with the IL2 code, that someone will come along and implement it. I for one plan to be playing IL2 for many years to come, we've just come too far together for a long time now, for me to even consider chucking it in, even with the newer/better/bigger/faster/more flight sims on the horizon.
There are some vids available on Youtube that show 6DOF being used in IL2 (sorry, don't have the links handy - but a search for 6DOF on Youtube will get it for you), but this is just some entrepenuerial programmer who did it, and I think he's been asked nicely not to make his workings available to the starving masses.
Like I said, hopefully the makers will one day realise that it can't possibly do them any harm, and let the code, or at least some of it, available for the many followers of this great sim to expand on.
We'll see......

Stealth Wars (featuring the B-2 bomber)
Bosnia/Herzegovina Conflict
and BSG expansion: Humans vs Cylons (featuring the Colonial Viper and Cylon Raider)
...sorry, couldn't help myself...it's all Barbarossa's fault, I tell you!

It would be nice if it were an add on to 4.08.. but like lietmov and others said.. it probably isn't because of the 6DoF. It would be nice if they could fix the current pits.... to use it as an add on would be the smart thing. But this 10 year old engine may have been stretched to it's limits.

<span class="ev_code_YELLOW">If I remember correctly the reason that 6DOF is not implemented in "IL2 1946" is that the cockpits where not modeled for it...Soooo if they made a brand NEW stand alone (with the old IL2 engine modified for 6DOF) game of Korea with Brand New Jets modeled in complete 3D...we could have it!</span>

What I can imagine as a possible pay addon, probably download only, is that they would take some of the planes in 4.08, do new 3d cockpits (for 6d0f), add some new planes with 3d pits, and release it as a new scenario. This would be great for a Spain 1938 scenario. Korea is already being done for SoW series (I HOPE), which would be logical and easy other step. Suez crisis possibly, but it's even more obscure than Spain.

I was thinking exactly the same. In Spain there's no 'April's Fool', but we had a similar date, Innocents Day (December 28th) when we make jokes each other and the media bring hoax news just like this. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

BigBossMalone,
Thank you for your informative reply. It seems that 6dof is the fix for my biggest compaint about flight sims.

It'd be nice to have that 45 degree gap in vision to your lower '6' reduced down to 30 or lower.

How shameless is this?!?! That is for sure a Wings over Vietnam screenie. I have enjoyed that game for as long as its been around. Problem with it is that It becomes too arcadish. It is beautifull and can be fun. I keep in on my hard drive cos it is FUN. However my main reason for disliking it is because you cant decide who to fly against. The game choses for you. Its a cool game but nowhere near as realistic as IL2.

I feel the need for 6DOF is exaggerated. Think about it for a second. Even as far back as WWI in the biplanes pilots were strapped in so good that they could not move their heads all that much. You could lean your head to the side while swiveling/craning around to look behind and to the sides. But could you lift your head up much higher or lower it down much?? Not a lot, which is why 6DOF has never excited me all that much. It's really not a big deal and I for one can do without it forever. Fighter pilots got strapped in really well. If they didn't get strapped in well, it could spell t-r-o-u-b-l-e.

I'm thinking you've never experienced it.

6d0f is the best thing since the joystick. Particularly as Il-2 cockpits are modeled 'accurately', that is you see what you've would've seen if your neck was bolted into place. So the bars are THICK. They are IN THE WAY. You CANNOT SEE planes behind them. This is UNREALISTIC.
Even a couple of inches of lateral/updown movement would make this game perfect.Ish.

Grand_Armee

I agree with this 110%. There's no way to look around a canopy frame without changing the axis of flight of your aircraft.

bigbossmalone

I concur, (as they like to say in the medical profession):
Think about it a bit more, mortoma. more than a second, anyways!
Even being as strapped in as tightly as possible, you would need to be in a neck brace of some sort to not be able to move your neck - and we're talking SIX -6 -degrees here, hence the name. It might only be a little, but I can assure you those few degrees of movement-tranlated into visibility, will mean the difference between life and death in many an aerial combat situation!
LIFE and DEATH, my friend! I beg you to reconsider...(virtually speaking, of course)
