This might make me a mod devotee.

cool ...

The prewar/early-war Sea Gladiators had some VERY colorful schemes, I knocked up a HMS Glorious skin a while back for the in-game J8A and it was rather fun to do, unfortunately it probably will not work with this mod. Each carrier was different so hopefully someone will do a few flights of historically correct skins from a range of carriers for this mod.

To give an idea this is a HMS Glorious Sea Gladiator skin painted onto the default J8A ...

I forgot, did the Sea Gladiators have a tailhook ?
Does the mod have one ?

Main differences were a tail hook and a dingy mounted in a pod between the wheels. They often also were given the three blade black with yellow tips prop instead of the sea grey wooden watts prop.

Otherwise almost identical.

Thanks Galway.
All the pictures I have found of the Sea Gladiator have them in flight so there is no way of telling what the prop looks like.

I found the mod and saw that it does have a tailhook. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Its nearly impossible to tell which particular Sea Gladiators had 2 bladed Watts and which had the 3 bladed Hamiltons unless you just happen to find a photo of that particular aircraft. In fact some birds probably had both fitted at different times and there even seems to possibly have been a mix within squadrons during conversion.

This is Faith of "Faith Hope and Charity" Malta fame sporting a Hamilton 3 blade prop ...

To my knowledge the prop of the gladiators were either the 2 bladed watts or the 3 bladed fairey reed. The hamiltons were only fitted on the malta gladiators, "borrowed" from some blenheims. The reasons for this was, as I have understood it, lack of spares for the glads of malta.

2 bladed on gladiator mkI's (and j8a wich essentially was a mkI other than it had the 840 hp engine. It had the mkI instrument panel as seen in the game. MkII panel is quite different. Later on j8a was also fitted with the 3 bladed prop so that the engine effect could reach it's full potential)

3 bladed on gladiator mkII's (some pilots still preferred the 2 bladed and installed these on their rides)

3 bladed on sea gladiators as well. The sea gladiator was in essence a mkII. The first batch of sea gladiators delivered to faa were converted mkII's, not really intended for carrier use.
Other than the dingy and the hook the sea gladiator also got it's frame a bit reinforced to be able to withstand catapult actions. Of course they were fittet with different instruments as well... knots for faa http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The MK designations of the sea gladiator is somewhat confusing. You might see a sea gladiator mkI, which is really a gladiator MKII turned to a sea glad (the first batch)http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. The sea gladiator MKII should then be the "real" sea gladiator, eg NOT the mkII conversion but sea gladiator from the beginning BUT with gladiator MKII performance/fittings other than the "special" sea gladiator equipment.. makes sense? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

To clarify the difference between mkI and mkII here are some early development pics from our gladiator project, prior to the decision to only go for the j8a

(size on British gunsight is wrong on 1st 2nd 4th and 5th pics (we measured it a tad bad)

PS: A minor error in the j8a in the game.
The j8a was fitted with a german revi gunsight, mostly the revi 3a, but we fitted the revi 3c in the model for various reasons.
Maddox obviously thought it was some kind of copy of the japanese gunsight (type 98) which was a copy of the german revi 3a. The german however (the correct for the j8a) should have a single cross and a circle, not the one as we have today which is japanese.

You know what plane Id like to see is the Fairey Swordfish so I can recreate the battle against the bismark that damaged and eventually caused the sinking of the ship.

Thankyou for that info, I knew the early gladiators were Watts props but had just assumed all the three bladed ones were Hamiltons the same as the Malta ones.

absolutely SOBERB! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

buddy, I have a high quality color drawing of the A5M "Claude" cockpit in general. pedals, even the security belt. as well as a relation of witch is the function each one of the intruments of the cockpit. don't you have any interess in that if you don't have this material?

repeat, the quality is soberb.

you modders with totally sure are very busy all the time, can't even imaginate, but if you have any interesting in modelate a A5M cockpit and want this material, please, send me a PM rigth away.

I also have a same way one for the B5N and B6N, but sadly that is just for the pilot's position.

Thanx mate, but I think you misunderstood. I a not a modder and these are not pics of mods in development. These are pics from 2003 during the project (http://f19vs.se/page.php?11).

I just posted these to clarify the difference between a Glad MKI and an MKII.

We had not yet decided to go for the J8a. Our intention was to release a multitude of cockpits for the addon pack "Ace Expansion Pack", but lack of time limited it only to the J8a, we nearly missed the dead-line even for this.
Cheers
