View Full Version : Why do the british coastal merchants show up as neutrals?

The merchant that you see all over the place on the east coast of england. Just curious as to why this ship always shows up as a neutral whenever I sink one.

Shouldn't it show up as allied?

Or do all the merchants show as neutral?

Am I not sinking the right ships?
This is the only merchant I have sunk so far but I dont want to sink any more neutrals.

Perhaps it's because all the merchants in the game show as neutral?

They are probably not British but Norwegien or Swedesh, etc.

Use the exterior view and take a look at their flag.

Some also said that up until 09 Sep 39 British ships show up as neutral because the war didn't actually start until then(or so). That prob explains why my first patrol in AF87 only saw Neutral shipping.

Ships can be British made but owned by a Neutral national, just like owning a foreign car. It's the flag flying that counts.

I think I have been sinking the wrong ships. LOL
I sunk a few neutrals. But I did always get renown after a patrol.

One more question at what year month is it safe to attack American ships?

By mid-December 1941. After Pearl Harbor, basically. Before that, it was a big no-no, or so said the Fuhrer.

After Dec 7, 1941.

Technically, the war against the US was declared by Hitler only on Dec. 11th

The flag in that screenshot is the only merchants i have seen so far around england.

Who does this flag belong too? which country?

I have seen alot of ships with that flag but anytime i sink one it counts as a neutral.

So which country does that ship belong too?
They also always show up as red contacts and when they spot me they take evasive action.

Now im confused. Im pretty sure that is a British merchant but anytime I sink one it shows as neutral.

Is my game bugged.

I am positive that is the flag on the ships I sunk.

it looks like it is flying a red ensign, which means its british, or one of the colonies. maybe a colony that hadn't joined the war?

On the debriefing screen it's very easy to read the lines wrong, the design is a little tight togther. I've thought I've been sinking neutral ships too, several times, before I held a ruler up against the screen, and saw that the right row was indeed under 'Enemy'.

I think your probably right.

I will have to wait til after my next patrol to take a good look at the screen.

Thanks for the help. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
