I want to undo the GWX mod. It is too tough on my computer and is bogging it down, and it is also too hard for me to play at this stage. I want to just have the original with a few eye candy mods and SH commander. Then, when I upgrade my computer I will be able to have a new game with GWX when I am more experienced.

I just did a fresh install, did the 1.4b upgrade, then GWX. the commander. How can i get back to just the 1,4b version. I know I roll back Commander and uninstall it, then what do i do with GWX. Is there a way to get it off and beack to 1.4b?

Before you do all that, remember that you can modify the game in a couple of hundred different ways by editing the CFG files and using SH3 Mini Tweaker.

You can literally tailor the game to be exactly as easy or as hard as you want; .....and you still get to keep all the GWX eye candy, new ships, and better graphics!

Where can I find this mini tweaker, and can you give some basic suggestions for easing things up a bit in GWX? Also, how can I make it easier on my computer--IE turning graphics down and such to get my frame rates decent and such. Could I lower the resolution? I don't even know where to set the resolution or even what it is set on. Can I put it at 800-600?

Also, a Commander question. If I want to reload a saved game after I get killed, how can i do this in commander? It says in commander that I died in that career and gives no option to reload a save before the death. Can I just go into SH3 exe without starting commander and load the old save there?

Thanks for any help.

The main thing is to find a way to make the game easier with targeting and such, ease up the deadly destroyers and detection of the enemy. Gwx took these things too far for my experience level. I wish they would have integrated simple options to keep the difficulty as it was, no milk cows, targeting the same, destroyers and enemy detection the same, no added mines and tougher entrances to ports. basically, I want the EYE CANDY and more involved missions radio broadcats and such, but not the harder enemey, targeting, navigation to ports and such.

Thanks

SH3 Mini Tweaker can be downloaded from the following site:

Altering DD characteristics; On this subject, I'll take the liberty of copying this most comprehensive post by Bootsmann0815. His instructions will allow you to set the escort crew capabilities down to the level of mere mortals.

"The easy way is to reduce the enemy crew rating from "Elite" to lower settings by editing the Campaign_RND.mis file. Open this file either with Notepad or with Word for Windows.

Each enemy warship has an entry which reads
"CrewRating" in its description. There are about 2,200 of those in UBWA, and of them 1,650 are "Elite" - indeed quite unrealistic in early war.
You can see the status of an enemy crew by the number in the CrewRating line
CrewRating=4 means Elite
CrewRating=3 means Veteran
CrewRating=2 means Normal
CrewRating=1 means Novice

You can now either manually assign lower crew ratings to each individual warship (that will take you a while), or use the Edit -> Replace All function in Notepad (takes over 50 min) or Word for Windows (takes 10 seconds).
In the "Replace" line you type
CrewRating=4
and in the "Replace with" line you type
CrewRating=3 (or =2 or =1) as per your preference. If you go with the "=1" option, former Elite units (i.e. the vast majority) become as stupid as the normal units in the stock game, but nevertheless retain their ability to execute more elaborate evasive manoeuvres and not just zig-zagging.

I recommend that you don't bother fiddling with sensor settings. The enhanced capabilities of the enemy units in UBWA are almost exclusively due to their higher crew rating compared to stock, and not because they got better equipment."

"Uninstall GWX ?" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

"No, no...that must be a mistake" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As others have mentioned, there are things you can do to take the stress off your system. I have enabled the "Lite harbour traffic mod" and it seems to have helped in port. I also took the particle density down to 60-70%. Hope this helps.
