Well afther playing modern sims like Lock On ... i decided to once again install the IL-2 game and got hooked like never before even if i don`t have much time to play it... and since in lock on i flew the SU-25 what better choice here than the IL-2 ... i started a campaign in Lvov '41 .
My question is is anyone that finished the war 41 to 45 in any plane ? and about how many missions did it take ?

Also can you please point me to a thread or web site focusing on the Il-2 plane and maybe some user made campaigns ..
Thank you.

Thank you ... and do you know a web site or maybe a squadron`s site that covers the IL-2 and ground attack ?
And were there any Il-2 aces ?? i read somwhere about a Stuka ace with something like 400 tanks destroyed ...

PS: Hmmmm that`s weird i shot down a bf-109f with my IL-2 first series http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif very lucky i was number 7 on a artilery busting mission with no fighter escort when we were attacked by two bf-109 ... that shot down 2 IL`s ... two more crashed while manuvering and me with the two remainng shot down the german fighters ...

PS2: has anyone completed a tour with the Il-2 i mean from 41 to 45 ??
10q
Also where can i get a picture of the IL-2 like the one from the banner from this page ?

I was quite in the campaign thingy, but nowadays I don't play them so much anymore (ok I didn't resisted on brand new Spitfire NWEurope campaign, it has only 17 missions but what missions! By far the best DGen campaign I have played so far, thanks again IanBoys & CO http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).

I flew all of them from first available date in full length (without WiA status, since that reduces campaign length). I believe that you were saying something about German Fighter Center; I almost finished that one also (but unfortunately I deleted it on 176th mission, it was around 25 april 1945 at that time, so you can count on around 180-190 missions total).

All careers on pictures are finished (exception is VVS one) and in full length (without WiA status) so that answers your questions.

Since I see that you didn't spent so much time with FB lately here is one really useful link for common questions.
http://www.airwarfare.com/sturmovik_101/faq_index.htm

About your question, campaigns cn be found on official pages, airwarfare.com, flying-legends.com and some other pages.

Some of the best user made campaigns can be found here:

After you install that DGen overwrite it with this DGen_beta3(newest version, corrects some errors):

Kuna,

I assume when you get to 100 kills, the clock rolls over to zero? I can't imagine fling that many missions and ending with so few kills (in some campaigns... and of couse in others you are scoring quite well).

SH </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Kill counter keeps on ticking past 100, for a little while I was flying a full arcade campaign for the fun of it and was up to around 680 kills off only 78 missions. Tully says it correctly.

I always have an opportunity to shot down way more airplanes but I simply choose not to, in spite of the fact that this may seem ridiculous lol. I have some other priorities in campaigns.

I like some 'realistic' feel about this campaign thing. I feel that even this number of kills are way 'unrealistic' -- 91 kills in 91 mission in Hungarian fighter, no rl ww2 Hungarian pilot comes even close and some of them flew 3-5 times more combat missions than I thru their careers.
And to add to what has been said, I never try to kill enemy planes in repeated mission (when I'm KiA, WiA or MiA).

That way I have, for example, one ai pilot in my regument that has joined the squadron after me and have more than two times bigger kill tally.
I must admit that I have been watching over him (as an wingman) every time he flew (it wasn't difficult since he was my superior for most part of the campaign). In spite of the fact that he flies always in second group of fighters now since I get promoted (I lead the first flight he lead the second), in combat I always try to watch over him, as I would like to see him alive thru whole war http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

He is an absolute ace in skill now -- occasionaly scoring more than 3 kills/per mission.

Ok i started a new campaign set it on Realistic (unchecked two things padlock and mini-map path) and i flown 5 missions with the I-153 Cheaika and i have 4 ground kills ... wich is very very different from the IL-2 .. can`t wait to finish this tour and get my hands on an IL-2 again.
Now if you play like yor life was in that plane than this is how it goes (like you said) many missions few kills.

PS: i see you like only fighters http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Time to pass a virus http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif. I'm only playing DiD (Dead is Dead, when you die you die even because of friendly fire or accident, and then you delete the campaign). It's necessary that you uncheck the No Instanst Success though. Also I allow myself external views for the first minute or so, to see the layout of the airfield and how many i have in front of me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Don't ask what's my record or how many kills; all my pilots are dead and can't answer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif.

I didn't flew exclusively fighters in campaigns, I had few runs (kinda attempts) in Ju-87. Now that is an interesting plane (dive bomb runs are absolutely crazy stuff http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).
Never finished any of these Ju-87 campaigns -- I did some research about historical units and I remember that I selected (I).StG.77 iirc as they were historically very 'compatible' with selectable theatres.

And I have finished G4M campaign also in full length on 'realistic' settings. But I lost that one due to misfortune hard disk crash http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. iirc it contained 120-124 missions (FB/PF 304m).

I plan to start IL-2 career after this one (with Lavochkin fighters http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif). Just need to do some background on units/historical types used, as I'm freak for that stuff http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

Well I like that DiD settings also, personally I would fly that online if that ever is going to be possible (some server with online campaign or something like that, since we already have NGen and online campaign implemented). Or OM BoB perhaps?
Now that would really be something.
'Realistic' settings dead is dead campaign online http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif.
Kinda like a lot of COOPs and one life only to pass them all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Offline I get frustrated fast with DiD since nowadays I get killed in offline campaign on the weirdest imaginable ways.

But I think that someday we will play DiD online, and that would be (for me) the best aspect possible that one airsim can offer.

I was thinking of playing like that to ULTRA-realistic but there is a problem how do you get to the end of the war ??? since it is imposible to not die/crash at least one time in a few hundred missions ...

Really the only way you can get to the end of the war is
1)set the campaigns to be really short
2)you get wounded a few times and you skip parts of the war

Download and install this program IL-2 Shturmovik Stab.
http://www.users.on.net/~mjtm/IL-2/index.html

After setup you will be able to tweak all your campaign options with nice looking interface without being forced to do that within conf.ini ([DGen] section).
After you make your changes in Shturmovik Stab you can check out your conf.ini, check the bottom of the document [DGen] section to see what changes was made ([DGen] section in conf.ini does not exists by default it only exists if you want to make some changes to your default campaign values).

I have 402 and it works excellent for me. I have no problems like those you described.
What is your graphic card and what drivers do you use?(anyway if 401 works for you 402 must work ok in graphical terms).

A few n00b tips if you agree:

When you see or hear enemy fighters .. quickly drop all your bombs and rockets and do a 180 turn and go very fast to freindly teritory and/or fighters.

When chased by enemy fighters fly very low 5-10m and very fast... be very careful with obstacles like trees ,forests, houses, chimnes, hills etc. use gun sight view zoomed out to check the surroundings and zoomed in for obstacle aviodance.

set the Il-2 to:

radiator open
120 mix
propeler 100

Call for fighter support !!! if you see friendly fighters try to head to them ...

When he starts shooting dive a little to something like 3-5m off the ground ... and turn(combat turn followd by a rool and a dive) or slow down quickly.
he will have to much energy and pass over you ... then pull up behind him and shoot ... or fly away yor choice.

This is if you fly on Realistic settings with DiD rules ... i did 8 missions with the original IL-2 campaign ( 6 missions in the I-153P and 2 in IL-2 first series) and only destroyed 6 vehicles and one Bf-109F ...
