View Full Version : The deck/flak gun in storm: Is there a way to change this?

I realize this has been discussed, bludgeoned to death, thrown from a moving u-boat, and then discussed again... but the fact that I am unable to man my flak turrets because of a light chop on the sea gets pretty irritating (especially because I find great joy in shooting down planes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

So I guess the guns aren't able to be manned in winds that are 7 knots or above (found that information on this forum).

I checked all the .cfg files looking for ANYTHING that would let me edit this value. Is there any way that this "feature" can be changed or even deleted? I would like to be the one who decides whether my men can put handle a rough sea or two for the good of the mission.

Thanks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It's not about the men catching a cold or getting washed over board, it's about the accuracy of the shots.

At a windspeed of 6 it is quite a hassle for me to shoot at a freighter (500) with the 2mm Flak. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Now imagine how inaccurate the shots will get at 8 or 9. If they include this inaccuracy I would say they could put the limit just a little bit higher.

I realize that it is probably historically accurate, but like you said, I think the value should be a little higher than it is. More-so for my own personal enjoyment. Maybe 10 knots instead of 7 for instance.

Just wondering if anybody knows a way to edit this?

But really though, shouldnt it be the captains choice to man the deck gun or not? He'll find out soon enough that he cant shoot accurately but the game shouldnt say you cant, especially when the level is set so low to make for some rediculous situations.

Agreed. It should be the players choice. If your crew gets washed away in a monsoon, well then that's a risk you have to be willing to take.

When you surface and immediately get bombed by swarming planes, its better to go down fighting than floating there like a duck in a bathtub, I say. Or, to at least have the option to fight back.

EDIT: Not to mention that I can have a crew out on watch, about a foot away from the flak gun without being able to hop in it. The flak gun is well out of the way of the waves.

i was thinking the same thing last night, when a huge wave came over the top and the tower was under an good 4 ft of water.and ifelt yes i could of used the guns at that time but my deck spent more time under then above the waves, and after that big one its an wonder i had an watch crew left.or they should have been put to sick bay to say the least.so i feel on one hand yes we should get the choice, but we should also suffer demerrit for the wrong choice.

As long as they suffer from extreme fatigue and aren't able to hit the plane because of the heavy waves I'm with you. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Remember, on the Type VII and XXI, the Flak gun will be over the waves, but on the Type II and IX they are on the deck, and are just as succeptable as the deck gun.
