Stiglr is the high priest of target:Rabaul.
Maybe you could PM him.

i have tried it.

i think it has potential, the FM seemed different to what im used to ie il2 etc.

but.... nyyyaaah i didnt like it much.

it seemed like a public beta.

unless i had settings turned way down it had somewhat drab graphics.

worth a look, free download, give it a try but dont expect a polished product.

ill revisit it in time to come and see how its progressed.

Targetware looks like a rip off of warbirds. According to Stiglr the flight models are infinitely better than PF and that could very well be true but the game looks horrible. If you're looking for another WW2 flight sim I'd recommend CFS3 with the Firepower Addon. There is also a really fun Korean War addon for CFS that can be found here: http://www.cfsinsider.com and it looks like there is a good WW1 mod in the works here: http://www.off.oldbrowndog.net/

The FM had much more real feel to it but it'S not ready yet. So take-off ground handling etc. is still missing bits and pieces. Also there are really no opponents to shoot down so it's too early but I follow with great interest.

Now, where is Stig when you need him http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

He'll show anytime now....

Even in beta it is not nearly as bad as some make it. In some ways it exceeds il2 (cockpit views being one)and from the looks of it an upgrade is due soon. Problem with TW is lack of pilots. It's free now so why not try....also make sure your frustrations with it aren't related to improper stick settings as that is a issue for sure.

Well, game has certain potential (at this point, hopefully it will be developed into something more http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif). One thing you must credit this game for; a lot of planes. Really.. a lot.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Stiglr must be on vacation. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Vacation...noooo... must hear his voice of reason now!

Well Stiglr is not here, so I know he would want me to fill in for him....

First of all I would like to apologize to Stiglr for the tiff we had over targetware in the IL2 forum a bit ago, sincerly.

Second of all Targetware is fine. The graphics are not as good as IL2, and the FM probably need a little work but doesn't this need work on every sim?

Lastly, soon everyone will see the FM of PF possibly move toward a some of the characteristics that targetwares FM has, especially the greater inertia of control inputs and greater feeling of weight of the aircraft. I am glad Stiglr finally got PF as with the next patch he will be like a pit in $hit and be yelling a lot of "I told you so's".

The patch is so far off Stiglr will succumb to alzheimers and forget why he praised TW:Rabaul so much.

I gave it another whirl last night. The ability to easily move the pilots head in the cockpit is really nice, the flight models seem solid for the most part and with all the different plugins there are a lot of planes to chose from. It definitely still "feels" like a beta, and even though it will probably be able to accomidate a massive number of people online, I think Il2 will still offer a better online experience especially since the capacity for players online has been increased with PF.

Pardon my ignorance.

What exactly should I download to try it.

I tried it a few years ago (didn't like it) but I would like to try again.

What files do I need?

Download the appropriate version of targetware for your OS from this site. Then get an account. Once you have that you open tragetware and put your username and password into the 'settings' screen. After that you can dowload all the plugins automatically through targetware.

I have installed it again and all the mods (except WW1 (It looks like it is down or something).

I cannot get my x-45 to work, did read the forums over there...looks like it is a common problem. None of the fixes that they mentioned work. My rudder pedals work fine but not the stick.

Too bad, I shall have to render a verdict; Garbage!

Somebody PM me when it is finished.
I'm not a type of alpha tester. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

05-12-2005, 03:35 PM
Sorry! I spoke too soon,

I got the stick and pedals to work.

It is OK kind of like the Linux of flight sims.

I really like the lack of rudder authority while taxiing. That is nice. But that is about all I like.

I shall richard around with it over the weekend and render a final opinion.

hmm, no Stigler sighted yet...

Like many others, I've tried it (very recently, in fact), but found it not to my taste. I'll keep an eye on it, to see what shakes out, but it still feels like too much of an unfinished product for my tastes.

Lots of potential, for sure, but feels like a generation behind FB/AEP/PF to my untrained eye.
