Could someone tell me how to turn off MS firewall before I go online? like a short cut on the desk top or something?

Go to Control Panel/Windows Firewall.
Double click to open, and select the tick next to the red shield that says Off:not recommended.

I haven't shut my firewall off while online. Is there a reason to do so?

I was trying to get on line with a friend last night, we couldn't connect, when I closed the game there was a window on my desk top, saying the firewall was stoping me, and did I want to close it? I assume that was the problem, I just don't want to have to go out of game to close it then go back in! We were trying to connect in 2004. any ideas?

Thanks for your response!

start->run->firewall.cpl

Will do it.

Add the above text to a file in note pad, then save it as:

"firewall.bat" (include the " marks) and you have a clickable shortcut.

Sorry, better would be to add an exception for IL2, use the firewall.cpl trick, click ecxceptions tab then add program, browse to and find il2fb.exe and add it.

Well, I used the exceptions tab, and had him do the same, it looks like he's not connecting for some reason, he's on comcast, didn't I just read something about that?

Yeah, look for the Comcast threads. Shouldn't be tough.
I've never had a problem with my firewall stopping me from connecting. I have Verizon so I'd bet it's a Comcast thing.

Reason being ( for me ) is there are lots of better third-party firewalls out there. Comodo being far better, with Zonealarm coming in second. Comodo is now better than Zonealarm because it's slightly tougher to crack and they offer features that Zonealarm makes you pay for.
