To be frank Oleg had the flight modelling and sound spot on in the first original IL2, but pandered to the likes of the people in here and diluted the effect...................... why oh why did he do it?, well he trys to give his customers what they want......... and as such we have a diluted, but highly accurate version today..... but the later patches have addressed this and we are now getting close to as perfect as a PC can manage... No other sim comes close, well not under about 12.500,000...................... Thank you Oleg

Voted 2 - not worthy all the hype and wait. Half finished. FMs are nice, but lacking in new planes. There you have it.

taylor tony original FM in IL2 was unrealistic at best. your not a pilot

Actually, I'm ecstatic, but I gave it a 4 because I really wanted a flyable Tempest and Mossy! I'm being shockingly greedy though since I got my Mustang III!!

New AC models are 3rd party unless noted to be built by 1C..some are waiting on cockpits..others modellers have not been in contact for ages....

I installed 4.01m and really like it. FM is much more realistic with regards to energy loss and gain. The planes seem to behave much more realistically. (yes I am a full size pilot and RC pilot as well)

The clouds don't have an impact on FPS either. I still have to try the new obects and maps but I really like what I see so far.

Thanks Oleg!

Didn't vote anything because the very morning 4.01 was released (i didn't go for any of the leaks)the wind blew my 'phone lines down. they're not back up yet and my workplace won't let me download exe files.
Listen carefully and you might be able to hear me whine from where you are.

It's good. Not perfect though. However, it is a beta for the fm used on BOB so I expect errors. So, a 4.

It's a 5. Haven't flown all the FM's, been sticking to WF but for handling characteristics the 4.01 patch seems to have evened the playing field. You can pretty much stay on the tail of Spits with Me's and Fw's and vice-versa the P-51, 47 on either of the latter. Flopped around alot trying these maneuvers using 3.04m. It's great! The FM's that haven't been released yet will show up eventually (hopefully in AEPPF and not after BOB is out)

Gave it a 2. Disappointed in the selection of new planes, I mean who needs another Spit. And the clouds, while very pretty, just hammer the frames. I hate having to back off my vid settings to compensate for them. I know I can get rid of them offline, but online, it's another story.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

The FM however is a challenge, and therefore..... cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

4. The FM is great - outstanding work, 1C! The new planes are great too but it's a shame with that Spit hood/prop-thingy. The clouds? Well, while I don't have any problems running them now after a vid card upgrade I feel for those with older cards that might not be able to make it online & it's too bad if it splits the community. Personally I don't think the clouds are that much better than before except for the drawing distance - they are not worth the fps loss IMHO.

Am I the only one who thinks the number rating is upside down? I was looking at the responses thinking, "These are harsh and only Jasko76 has given a good rating!"

Anyway, gave it a 5. I love the feeling of trying to control an engine powered object; getting her to work for you.

Real hard...slam the throttle, and point the nose.
Quite unlike beta where you actually had to use rudder in flight.

I think that this patch is definitely a step in the right direction. I enjoy it a lot. I give it a five. I was really hoping for different airplanes maybe, not simply more. I just hope that we see some of those that have been lusted after at some point. The FM is great. It now feels like holding the tail of a tiger with 1500 hp whipping a 12 ft diameter prop through the air (dont nitpick the numbers it was simply an example). Coming from 3.04m when you could firewall a 190 on the runway and then use just a tad of rudder to straighten it out immediately, this is a much more realistic simulation. I did breathe a sigh of relief after flying a bit and not having any FPS issues or cloud problems. That could have soured it for me some.

This game gets better and better.

Thank you Oleg

You`re probably flying with 4.01 over 4.00. Install fresh with just 4.01, the Spitfire will torque and dip bending the prop if you go straight at it without some rudder control and taking it easy. Just as it did in 4.0.

I gave it a 4.

There's nothing wrong with the patch. (Heck, I don't even care about any planes that were OR weren't added.)

I gave it a 4 because I'm having a bit o difficulty with the FM. Nothing major. I'm just getting used to a 'new balancing act.' I'm improving and getting less disoriented.( I'm having problems registering and interpreting stick reactions to stimuli, and not being able to detect whats happening based on feeling, and sounds in the game causes me to be disoriented.)

I DO like that new liquidy smooth feeling while in flight. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that AI has same models as me. Looks great flying behind a Zero and NOT seeing Bat Turns or UFO manuevers.

It's wierd. As much of a problem as I'm having being disoriented sometimes, I find I can evade enemies easier. Go figure. AND I haven't crashed on landing or takeoff yet.

If I had a problem with the patch I guess it would be that AI still goes for the low altitude
in combat. This probably has nothing to do with the patch... It's just an observation I hoped might have changed.

Without a doubt this is a GREAT PATCH and if we receive nothing else for IL2/PF I'm happy. Would I give it a five next week when I have the FM down pat? Hmmmmmmmmmm.........Well a 4 rating would be 80%. I think the patch deserves better than that right now. just not 5 yet. So I'd actually amend my score to 4.5 to 90% if I could and then possibly 4.75 next week (or 95 percent for you Calculus/ Trig majors out there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ).

Ivan, would you bring Oleg's attention to this poll, please? There's been a lot of very vocal, incredibly misinformed post-patch whiners, and this poll shows how the majority of the community actually feels about the patch.

I think people should do less posting and more flying. The Patch has only been out for two days, give it a couple weeks to form an objective opinion. (how's that for an oxymoron)

From what I've seen, there are a few that have had negative knee jerk reactions saying that its bad. Then a bunch more have reacted to them saying its great.

IMO thus far, the patch is a step forward. However, I have to fly more and read more to see if reality and virtual have come closer or not.

To all the people going off about how great or bad this new patch is. Is it better than 3.04? How do you know with a program this complex after 48 hours? Have you adjusted your flying style? Have you changed your joystick settings? Do you even know what they are supposed to be like?

There's no way I could figure this out after two days, maybe I'm just slow.

People are screaming about reality but they want test results on dozens of flight models in less than a week. That said, my first impression is 5 and better.

I guess im one of the few that actually remember Oleg's description as 'testing part of the BOB flight model in this engine'

After flying this patch 4.00 + 4.01 for over a week, my assesment is that if you're a Luft flyer this patch is fantastic, if you're principally a Soviet flyer there's no change and if you're a US and to a lesser extent a Brit flyer...well then things might not be so good http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
The flight models only impacts your flying for a couple of days but the difference in lethality/DM stays with you until the next patch.

I think the patch is an improvement over 3.04 but it would be interesting to have the word from the man himself as to why the FM ended up like it did right now.

Also, as you might suspect, I don't agree that it's a Lufty patch' the only real thing that is "advantageous" is that LW now has a 20mm cannon that is comparable to the Hispano..as they should have had years ago.

As to the 'advantages', e.g. the 190 'no fuel leak' gag (one extreme to the other), I don't think that such 'features' will persist long and nor should they. But, then again, the Lagg3 shouldn't have had an uber DM for this long, either.

Hmmmm 47% at 5 and 24% at 4 . Kind of made me wonder what the small but vocal (boy that's never happened before) group are complaining so bitterly for over the last 2 days. Then I remembered that repetition and practice makes one a better pilot. Well, that and I remembered that I don't care why they are B1atchin.

Is it an authentic FM??? beats the snot out of me. Is it fun??? Oh yes, indeed it is. I'd have given it a 4 1/4 just in support of some friends who died a little when they saw the brutal beauty of a Tempest just this.......far from their reach. I feel your pain brothers.

Have to run now. There's a new FM I need to adapt too. I find that works better than shrilly demanding that Oleg adapt it to me.

the whiners can whine all they want for their money but what they paid wont pay one electricity bill for one month in one four bedroom house.

Gulp .. ReDeth? is that really you? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I agree with what you're saying and sometimes I feel the same level of passion when I think how far Oleg and Team has raised the bar on flight sims. Being so far ahead of the competition is dangerous because some competitors will reason that if they can't catch up, their only option to stay in the game is to shoot the lead runner (if you know what I mean). One thing is certain. We're getting a glimpse of BoB flight models - they're not easy but that's a GOOD thing - and they're showing us that BoB is gonna ROCK! IMHO http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Flight model is great fun. I tried my first 4.0/4.01 landing with in a corair.

With rockets still on it

In a thunderstorm

with lots of flak damage to my right wing.

In a thunderstorm (I know this is the second time, but the wind was across the runway, it was bad).

I died.

Second attempt, similiar situation, hole in left wing, same base and weather, but approaching from the other direction. Got the plane down on its wheels (it was messy) but nosed over and tripod-skidded to a stop. With two tiny-tims attached to the bottom (was attackin shipping for fun, so infinite ammo).

third time, undamaged, no ordanance, survived it without hurting the plane. It was ugly, though. The storms are so awesome now.

I've just got my first 15 minute session (finally) with 4.01.... I give it a 4.5 only because I am flying it back to back with the 04 beta which I prefer.

The FM is great, no problems... nice 'heavy' feel to the plane, careful coordination should be helpful, more so than 3.04 (Not that such coordination is anything I am good at....)

However relative performance between planes who knows? I'm a low hour jockey with moderate skills so I may be switching from my beloved spit or p39s, we'll see... guys like me are best off with the motto "Why fly junk?".

Again thanks 1c for catering to the core crowd a bit and keeping the sim honest... some of us can feel we got what we asked for and that doesn't happen every day.

Hey Sultan, some of us are waiting for a 25lb boost spitIX... I hope you don't pop a gasket if we get that one.

And the XIV of course....

Pay addon? I'll pony up I suppose.....

Its great, best version I´ve flown so far! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I like it how gunnery is now harder when manouvring as it bounces all over the place, makes dogfights much more interesting! And its become a little slower due to the overall slower rollrates and heavier feel. Looks more like guncam footage. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've been in this forum long enough to know when to read all the posts and when not to bother. This is a "don't bother" thread since all the posts will most likely be based on first impression, expectations, and lack of experience with the patch. So, I#m guessing the posts will be extreme "against" or extreme "for". Wasn't this just released two days ago? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Somehow I think it's a little early for passing judgement. I'm glad I'm not Oleg.

It's a 3. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

New FM simply rocks if compared to the 3.04, they were definitely for kids http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif . Great improvement!. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
Only Betty and SpitVC/trop (here we go to Malta guys! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif ) worth waiting for new planes.

So why 3? Because 1941 Spitfire still doesn't shut engine on G-negative and disappointed for not-including flyable Junkers 88 yet http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif (announced for this patch on many official ubisoft sites, I know not on 1C site...but ****! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif )...
