Hello,

After playing the stock version of SHIII since it was released (with some minor mods), and after diligently reading the SHIV forums, I decided to go the route of GWX. I downloaded it this morning but have one question. There was also a download for the 3rd patch (82.0MB) to GWX. Is that patch included in the GWX download (790.8MB as an .exe file) or should I run the patch after GWX is installed?

I'm sure I'll have other questions as I get into it but I'm excited about the GWX facelift of SHIII. Once I finish my current patrol I'll be installing it. Any information you can give me at this time will be greatly appreciated since I will be new to GWX.

Thanks and GOOD HUNTING ! ! !

bin files 1-5, the installer.exe, and the 103.exe (patch) so 7 files in total.

Kaleun, you won't know yourself with GWX but you also need SH3 commander as this gives the interaction some polish. Commander enables you to control wave height, fatigue, crew awards etc per patrol.

Thank you for the info. I do have the 103 patch along with the GWX so that answers my question.

I neglected to mention that I have also been running SH3 Commander for a while now as well. It does add alot to the game.

So, any tid bits I should know about before submerging into GWX? Things I should look for? etc??

Thanks again and GOOD HUNTING ! ! !

Make use of the numerous helpful drop-downs in GWX, especially the mine/subnet map for Axis ports (don't exit ports submerged without it!).

If you want realism, follow to the letter (like a good German officer should) all radio instructions from BdU that are specific to your boat, as well as general orders to boats at sea (ie: All boats at sea disregard previous assignments to assist in Norway operations).

Much of the gramophone music provided with GWX is English or American, and can be dumped in favor of German tunes of the period. Download one of the gramophone mods, or download German WW2 music from the internet into your gramophone file ..... as long as it is in MP3 format.

All good suggestions and info - thanks. Now I'm even more excited to get my boat back to Brest so I can install GWX.

Is there a manual installed when I install GWX? That would be greatly helpful.

Open Hatch mod was recommended. What and where is that? It sounds interesting.

Again, thank you all - GOOD HUNTING ! ! !

Open hatch does what it says, keeps the hatch open in the control room, you can see into the captains cabin and radio room, very cool, try subsim.com, or just look up in google.

Do you know if theres a mod that allows you to go through other compartments of the boat? I realize they would have to be made from scratch, im just wondering if its in the works. It kills me not to be able to see more than 3 rooms.

Well, I started my 17th patrol. My first with GWX. OMG!!!! This is a totally new sim (not game - sim!). The skins look great, the control room looks like a whole new sub (with the gauges and all), the sub starts out in the u-boat pen, and there are OTHER U-BOATS, HARBOR TRAFFIC, AIR COVER, and I even had an ESCORT SHIP! I am totally blown away. Congrats and THANKS to the GWX DEV team - what an incredible job!

Now, for you experienced GWX users, is there anything I should know right off the bat before I get myself killed?

Thanks again to the moders and the wonderful forum support here!

GOOD LUCK and GOOD HUNTING ! ! !

Yeah, don't be in a hurry to fast forward out of the harbors ..... I collided with another u-boat in Wilhelmshaven that way, as it pulled out in front of me from a wharf behind the Tirpitz!
I love seeing other u-boats returning from patrol as I sail out .... it gives one hope for a safe return!

Otherwise totally agree with you on the job by The GWX Dev Team http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I agree. Last night, when I was leaving Brest with my escort, I passed another VIIC that was coming home. What a great addition. That, along with the escort, and the fighters flying overhead makes you feel like at least you can get out to sea safely. It was the first time in a little over a year that I went from the harbor to the edge of the continental shelf almost in real time. With all the additions GWX made visually, I didn't want to go to the map view!

I did notice overall, with respect to display brightness and contrast, that everything is a bit darker. Is that adjustable?

I believe that the "Neutral Boyancy Mod" is the "Reduced Positive Buoyancy Mod" which I do have enabled. I'm not familiar with the "Stay Alert Crew Fix" from Rubini. I'll look into it.

I did notice alot of mods included with GWX. Do you have most of them enabled? Just curious to see what other GWX Kaleuns are running. I'll also look into Ducimus' mods.

Keep posting GWX info and suggestions here and to keep this thread going!

Thanks again and GOOD HUNTING ! ! !
