View Full Version : New fire and smoke effects (pics) hindered by vis distance

I've been playing around with the new smoke and fire objects in the FMB. They are pretty neat, and I thank the devs for including this as was asked in the forums, but unfortunately they are limited by the 2KM vis distance limitation. I placed well over a hundred of the large fires and hardly any slowdown in fps unless I flew through it.

I was hoping to make a B-25 fire storm mission, but the limited vis distance made it pointless, although I am trying to find a way to make it look good by possible making it a low level attack. It sure would be nice if vis distance was modifiable for effects. (as far as I know it's not)

Would be great if this could be incorporated into offline campaigns, say at the start of a mission. No trouble finding the target!

It'd be great if the fires had the same visibility distance as the ships now have. I wonder if that could be done. The Target For Tonight boys would love it.

are there any settings for the smoke/fires such as a time-out before they come on?

Yeah, that sounds great - I agree - longer viewable distance would seem more realistic to me

Nope. But the Lights have a Red/Blue option so they can be destroyed.

Nope they cannot be destroyed.
Just as much as sirens can be, even if they also has red/blue option.

It would really be nice to see some LOD for these at far ranges. Smoke should be more visible at longe ranges than any object.

This is a really cool addition and there are many cool effects that can be made by different combinations of this. TPN_Cephas, has discovered some very nice ones.

I like the chimney smoke, thats thinking outside the square. Cool!
