Mr Maddox,

Would it be possible maybe sometime we could get some early war P38's? such as the F or E or maybe even a D? We have so many models of the Spitfire or 109 or 190's, would be nice to have a earlier 38 to fly, or maybe even one inbetween such as the K or H or G...

But in any case, thanks for the great sim, im a life long buyer...

It's too bad, but I don't think we'll ever get a P-38 earlier than the J. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

Isn't the J sucky enough for you? You want one suckier than that? Roll rate of a small blimp, unreliable engines, almost no cockpit heat?

Just pop the canopy on your J if it still feels too toasty for you at 25k...

P-38J is about the same as a P-38H and earlier, performance wise - just less automation in the G and F. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

And they're early '43 and '42. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

No, no, no... P-38's are cool. But why lust for a model that is suckier than the J?

P-38G and H aren't any more sucky than a J. The performance is practically identicle.

Hmm, I was under the impression that the J was the first model with hydraulic ailerons. I also thought that the J model was the first one that began solving the high altitude freezing problem that caused unreliability in the engines (superchargers?). And wasn't the J model the first one with dive flaps to help solve the compressibility problem in high speeds dives?

Anyway, the manual aileron models apparently had aweful roll rates, especially at high speed.

I could well be wrong about the timing of these features since I am going by vague recollection, not any recent reading. So, if I am mistaken and if the G and H are identical to what's already in the game, why lust after them?

The J we have is either a J-10 or J-15, long before cockpit heating, dive brakes and aileron boost. It wasn't until the J-25 that we got aileron boost and Dive brakes, and not till the L that the heating problem was effectively solved.

The reason for a F - H, they are actual versions that participated in '43 and '42. The P-38J didn't see service till late '43 and early '44. Sure, we could use a P-38J in '42 - but folks are going to whine pretty bad if they see a P-38J in a '42 server, aren't they?

Eh, just copy the data, give it a cusom skin, and call it an "F"... what are they gonna know?

Ok, so the L is in FB right? (I don't have FB ... yet.) Does the L have a dramatically improved roll rate over the J that's in the game?

Yes, but mostly at high speed. At speeds in excess of 500kmh, the J's ailerons will freeze up, but the L will roll faster. At lower speeds they're pretty much equal.

And they will know - the F - H have chinless nacelles as well as heating problems. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

f-h p-38's were lighter in weight than the j/L..and would probably get dubbed 'uber' since they could finally turn with ease at speed
