View Full Version : Am I the Only One Waiting For the 4.01 Official Patch?

The subject is the question, I decided to wait for the "Official"patch. Am I the only one to do so? I feel kinda dumb, when everyone else is talking about the postives and negatives about the leaked 4.0 beta.

I thought the "Official"patch would be out by now, but who knows,... do we wait several months for the "Official"patch to arrive??? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Yes!

But, yer not dumb ...

Just wait...

There's no problem for you, as long as you don't play online (I've heard them onliners are just about all into 4.0 already http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif)

I've got me a 3.04m version next to a 4.00 version installed.

It doesn't matter to me much, I try-and-fly, and go for it, and Have Some Fun!

Just wait and sit it out.
By the time there's an official patch, lot's of them positive/negative talks on 4.00 will become redundant ....

(Oh, okay, them talks will start over again with 4.01, surely ...)

Have Fun!

Mee Too. I am hopelessly lost in the infinfite depths of configuring Strike Fighters, and am enjoying it more than I imagined. I am NOT having fun trying without success to learn the Terrain Editor -- so ya, I feel kinda dumb too.

Take your time Oleg with the official Patch 4.01 or whatever, fix that MiG~13 and Do~335 right. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm waiting, too. I've heard about the bugs and all the talk (trying to be nice) about what some don't like about the new FM, so I figure I'll just wait for the official patch. The way it sounds, there will be more changes in it, so I'll just have more habits to break.

I D/L'ed it but decided to wait, if 4.01 is not out by Wed night I'll probably install 4.00 as I'm beginning to miss not flying online.

Screw it, me and my squadron are sticking with 3.04 we've waited too long for the "official patch" we're having fun the way it is. I'm sick of the carrot and stick.

I too am waiting, but only because I can't find a link that works.
Though at this stage even if I could I think I would now wait for 4.01.
Can't be that far away - Can it?????????????

There will be some good new missions for you guys to fly in SP when it finally comes out. I'm taking it as some developer time so I can work on missions again http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm waiting too. Partly because I haven't had the time to fly online for the past week, and partly because I would rather download from an official site.

If I suddenly come across a few free hours that I can use to get online I might lose my patience...

Im stuck with 56k dial-up and am not all that keen on downloading 4.0, when 4.01 is supposedly due out any time now...touch wood http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Been keeping an eye on all the posts regarding it though, some of which have given me the Sh#ts refering to changes and increased workload. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
I have a dinosaur of a system (AMD 900, 64 Meg Geforce3, 256 RAM) and I im just praying to God, Alah (insert deity of choice) I will still be able to run it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Fingures crossed though http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

You are joking right?

I have a test center set up on the Crimean coast.
I took up the F2A-2, Yak7A, 109G6, Spitfire Vc 4 cannon with Volkes filter, and the G4M1 Betty, and was able to do repeated loops with any of them. I had default loadouts on all, 50% fuel on the fighters and 25% fuel on the Betty. Starting altitude was 1350 meters. I push over and built up speed till it felt right, and gently pulled back on the stick. It took small rudder corrections at the top of the loop on all, but nothing out of the ordinary. I did use combat flaps on the Betty at the top of the loop as well. No fuss, no muss, no drama.

I'm waiting. It's too bad I can't do online in the meantime, for the most part.

You know, I just love people who refuse to understand a person because their personal experience differs from another, then likes to rub it in your face.

I too found loops difficult in 4.0 at first and still do due to need for rudder corrections and aileron corrects to keep the plane in line. It is my impression that loops have to be entered with a bit more speed than previously needed. Addtionally, I found myself heading into stall speed at the top of loops and flipping around alot at first. I think there is perhaps more of a need in 4.0 to pull through to the top of the loop whereas previously the plane would sort of loop on its own.

However, I think if you enter loops with a little more speed, steer your way through the loop to keep it straight and pull through the loop a bit, you'll get a feel for looping in 4.0 although I can't say that looping feels the same nor is as easy as it was previously. Hope that helps as opposed to the eye-rolling response.

Refuse to understand?

Hardly.

Just nipping all this useless, panic riddled speculation in the bud.

Is version 4.0 more difficult? Yes.

Is it impossible? No.

Can it be improved? Of course.

Waiting for 4.01 in hopes it will be "easier"? Just plain silly.

Was going to do the same, especially when the 'official' line seemed to be 'it'll be out tomorrow.' I waited a couple of days when that line reverted to '2 weeks' but then I started finding it harder to get an online game. In the end I joined the lemmings and grabbed 4.00 and patched a copy of FB/PF.

In similar situations in the past I've not bothered with unofficial betas and the like, but having tried this I think it's as well to stick with it, because the FMs are significantly different. Sure, 4.0x will probably be different again, but it's going to be much closer to 4.00 than it is to 3.04, so I'd might as well get used to torque etc now.

I have to say that staying with 3.04m has been no problem and I fly in Hyperlobby most nights! I believe that most of our squad (USN) are like-minded and happy to continue with the existing patch until the official 4.0x is released. From the brief look at 4.0 that has been reported it seems there are more problems than solutions. For instance applying heavy torque effects to a P38 Lightning is pretty poor for an otherwise excellent simulator when you consider that the Lightning had counter-rotating props to negate torque effect!!! As for pretty new clouds, I never had a problem with the old ones. So stick with the official (in the hope that the manufacturers get their fingers out!) for the time being, is my call. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The official 4.01m readme file just posted in the german forum shows no difference to the 4.00 readme. No new planes, no new anything...

Everyone benefits from this open Beta anyway. Those that are playing it are reporting bugs et-all as an open Beta.

In the end we all should benefit.

I doubt Oleg will make huge changes to the FM except on certain aircraft. Whatever happens 4.01 will be a new experience.

Well, in a way, all of us are waiting for 4.01, even those who got the 4.0 leak. I d'led the 4.0 to try out the new FM out of curiosity and to compare it to older versions by playing some old offline missions and campaigns, but I've since uninstalled everything and I'm preparing my harddrive for 4.01 to arrive.

Gamewise, there is a lot to occupy me ( GTA San Andreas is out for the PC, for example ) that I can wait for 4.01.

I have always waited at least one week before downloading even official patches. The law of unintended consequences is just too inevitable with a major patch release for a sim this complex! Remember the 3.03 patch when allied planes couldn't get off the flight deck with minimal loadouts? I was very happy I didn't load that baby up! I have been quite content with 3.04 and was really looking forward to 4.0 primarily for the Tempest (oh well, life has it's disappointments). I can, and will, wait to see how it settles out before messing with a game that works well right now!

Assuming Maddox Games intends to address the more serious issues, this will likely delay the release of 4.01, "hurting" those who want to wait but really are being tempted by the 4.00 release.

And well they should be. Resistence is futile!
