Yeah, the Germans get the first updates, but the Americans get the releases first. What's up with that?

We colonials haven't received the Add-on yet.

Let's all wait and see about that point this time.

How come no updates on the English speaking site? Two updates on the German site in two weeks and nothing for us. Nothing on the French site either. Hmmm....

Why is the Spit wearing Russian stars?

Really, she was my first love. I don't know how many Airfix 1:72 sets of her I have built in my youth. The Hurricane has a sort of homely charm, but the Spitfire is still the unsurpassed queen of the skies, any skies.

The only thing I know of that's as sexy as a Spitfire starts with a "P" and ends with a "Y".

Because Oleg first requested Spits that flew for the VVS (At least that's what I heard through the grapevine). More models will follow later.

I know I'm biased, being British and all,but if ever an aeroplane looked "right" the Spitfire is it.It wasn't perfect, but then no plane can claim to be that, but it was/is beautiful.

I live in Stoke-on-Trent,the birthplace of Reginald Mitchell-the designer of the Spitfire, and I believe that is the proudest boast we could have .There is statue of the man outside the City Museum.

I'm so pleased to finally see it in IL2.Now if they could just get the sound of the Merlin right....!

ok it looks great finally seeing it in the game, but im sorry the cockpit shot is wrong, the horizontal bars in the cockpit(the bars that attach the windshield armor with the back ot the front canopy) is wrong it should not be there at all. those horizontal bars are only in the mkIX and later cockpits. just take a look for urself, look at the external picture of the cockpit and look at the interior, u'll see that the horizontal bars are there in the interior but arent in the exterior, big glaring mistake...oh well, at least its in the game......hopefully im not the only one to catch this mistake.

God that a/c is ugly.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Only because it has red star markings though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

ps. Since were picking out 'errors',http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif came across a pic of a Soviet Spits but they have a black outline to the red star.

I have many books on the Spitfire and I've checked this out. Sure on most of the pictures I have found of the MkV do not have those bars, but one single bar from the amoured windscreen, back to a point where the mirror is mounted. Yet I have seen pictures taken from the Castle Bromwich plant that shows a MkV in production with that arrangment. There is even one showing a MkII with a experimental gunsight with that screen type.

Ref source : "The Spitfire Story" written by Alfred Price

So it could be correct either way, as for my opinion I'd rather it was not there, they make two nice big blind spots.

O'h boy either way I cant wait, it's been so, so long since I flew a Spitfire of any kind in a sim.....It had just better make it to Ace's Add-On

Looks great. I don't want to be picky, but I wonder if there is any way to fix the join between the fin and the fuselage - it should flow into it rather than look like a bolt on.

As posted in ORR

Gee Biggs better take a look at some more Spit V pics.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Am looking at a Spit V of the USAAF, ER120. Guess what, it has the bars you say are not suppose to be there.

Another pic of a SAAF Spit v, R*DB, has those bars as well.

And another pic of AZ*B with those bars.

And another pic of RF*M, AR335, with those bars.

So some did and some did not. Gib's model passes inspection on that count.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Now that we are discussing cockpits - why did they model the old type of windshield, with the armour glass on the outside? The one with the plate on the inside looks much better, and would fit with the internal view we have now.
Bah, that's really not important. What is important that the bird looks wonderful and that we at last will be able to fly THE MOST FAMOUS fighter of all times! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Show us! Go sit in the Spit V's cockpit and take a picture. Draw a picture. Find a few technical manuals and scan the pages. One shouldn't make these scholarly observations without ample evidence, don't you think?

It would surely be a shame if the rest of us just got into this virtual cockpit and didn't know it was flawed. I can barely enjoy flying the 190 after reading three or four threads on the same subject.

Oh! It's a joke? Well, LMAO.

Winning isn't everything;
It's the only thing!

Ohh!! Don't try to argue with Biggs about spitfires.

I know I wouldn't!

The problem is - the spitfire was a design stretched out over a decade.. technological advances were implemented into the Spit airframe as and when they came..

Hence, old mk.s weren't scrapped.. often modified into the newer mk.s ... Different bits got made and/or retrofitted so it's awfully hard to say "a spit mk.V had 'X' "

But, whether or not the bars were/were not in place is not the issue here. It should be that the interior cockpit model correlates with the exterior aircraft model.. which in this case it clearly doesn't.
