some details and screenshots are here on the russian site

other info in English here, was going to be codemasters Battlefield command, but cant find the link to it anymore

some trailers...

says Codemasters changed name from battlefield command to wartime command then have dropped it, but russian development site shows updated pictures from this year so they must still be doing it in house http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I thought that development on the Maddox RTS was stopped

07-29-2005, 06:00 PM
So did I, but if it becomes a game I WANT IT!

07-29-2005, 06:08 PM
Apparently its aimed for release in Q1 2006:

I really hope it does one day get released, the graphics are absolutely awesome.

Its not Maddox, either. It's 1C. Different dev team.

The only connection to Maddox Games is it uses some airplane models from the IL-2 series.

WWIIRTS became Wartime Command and the project has now been cancelled.

From Codemasters:

Dear all Wartime Command fans and community members,

>>It has been a long and bumpy ride both developing and supporting
this title. As many of you will have noticed, updates and news have
been very scarce so we have come to the decision that we should let
you all know what is going on with this title, and what the future

>>There have been some issues during the design and implementation
of the ideas for the game, that both 1C and Codemasters
have wanted. Unfortunately delays to the launch were inevitable,
and it is with great regret that Codemasters have decided to not
proceed with this title

>>So what does this mean?

>>Well it means that for now, Codemasters won't be publishing this
game. However, the game is still in development with 1C as WWII
RTS. Whether the game will see another form later down the line is
for 1C to decide, so do please keep an eye on their site for any

>>Codemasters are looking into other strategy titles in the meantime
and endeavour to bring some very interesting ideas to the forefront....
more news on that in the upcoming months.

>>All the pre-orders will be cancelled and an email will be sent to
confirm this. All pending transactions will be cancelled and there
will be no charges.

>>We will also take down the site and lock down the forum in the
next week or two. Feel free to comment there or in the Codemasters
General Discussion forum.
You can also contact myself via PM or email for any concerns you may
have, all the details are in my signature on the forums.

>>As a personal comment, I was very much looking forward to what this
game was going to bring to the military gaming world, and the ideas
were always going to tax the latest systems. Many comments from the
Community helped to refine the design ideas and we implemented much
into the design schedule. I would like to thank the Wartime community
in general for their overall support and hope to see them around for
some of our future titles which I'm sure will re-ignite their gaming
and vocal interest.

>>I leave you all with these fine words by General Patton:

>>"There is one great thing that you men will all be able to say
after this war is over and you are home once again. You may be
thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the
fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you what you
did in the great World War II, you WON'T have to cough, shift him to
the other knee and say, Well, your Granddaddy shovelled s*** in
Louisiana. No, Sir, you can look him straight in the eye and say, Son,
your Granddaddy rode with the Great Third Army and a Son-of-a-
God****ed-B**** named Georgie Patton!"

- General George S. Patton, Jr (addressing to his
troops before Operation Overlord, June 5, 1944)

>>Until our next call to arms, this is me signing off....

>>Mike Rowland
>>Community Liaison Officer
>>Wartime Command

It got canned just like PT boats Knights of the Sea.

Maybe they will use all the fantastic models and terrains for a wwiiol land sea and air fps style competitor, something that would actually make a huge profit for codemasters/1c.

I mean look at bf2 the game sucks and more then 57,000 online. Ubi needs the wits to develop a big money maker like that then work on a new flight sim engine once the big money is made becuase no matter how good it is its a small community and not a big money maker. Speaking to the designer of xplane 8.0, he said he wanted to design a wwii combat sim but it would not make a reasonable profit.

Wow guys thanks for the response. Kinda a bummer though was really hoping this one was gonna make it

09-10-2005, 11:00 AM
Actually, it looks like they're going to finish development on WWII:RTS without a publisher.

Though I'm sure they'll find one before long. This makes perfect sense - the game is 96% finished, I highly doubt any dev. would literally throw out years of work and money spent on a title that's basically done.

09-10-2005, 11:21 AM
I think it's time for PC dev teams to move into self-publishing online. Cut the middle man...

09-11-2005, 12:15 AM
...like Battlefront with Combat Mission. Exactly. Hey, here's a link to the GUI, sorry its a pic of the screen shot from E3 (at which Maddox displayed WWII:RTS even after Codemasters dropped the publishing deal.)

Pretty cool.

LeadSpitter_ ... Knights of the Sea is alive and coming along fine... with a release date of early 2006

This looks like a game one could only dream of previously .Are there any similar products you would recommend.I have gotten very fond of the Napoleonic RTS Imperial Glory and failed to find a WW2 equivalent (Tried WW2 Frontline Command,Blitzkrieg,DDay,Combat Mission Anthology,Battlefield1942,Commandoes etc etc)

Think, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif its the middle man who holds the cash during development http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
