Does the aircraft you fly in Pacific Fighters change over time? So will my career, started as a P-40 pilot at Pearl Harbor ever see my changing to P-51 or P-38?

It changed in FB.

I started flying the LAGG in 1941 and by 1945 i was flying a Yak.

I see no reason that your plane choices will not include other aircraft

In my USAAF '41 campaign I started with a P-40B but now I'm flying a P-40E. The upgraded guns made a huge difference!

Before you start a campaign, in the section where it displays the date, battle, and plane type, left click on the plane selection and you can change the plane, for example an F4U for a F6F. You can then start a campaign from the first mission and when that particular battle starts, the plane you assigned will be the one you fly.

make sure you are using DGENBETA3.11 it adds campaigns and fixes AI issues.

More types will be available in some campaigns with the patch as well I believe.

there is also away you can add plane types to campaigns, tho it can be a little tricky.
You have to get the proper name in place & some planes are restricted a bit.

Now if I can just find the thread on that...
well here's part of it I saved :
Go to the main FB folder, open the DGen folder, scroll down and find the plane.dat files (they're all together)..Germany is written as such planesDeB, planesDeC, etc, and Soviets are planesRuF, etc..German fighter campaigns are the F=southern, C=central, L=north, and so on, while the soviet fighter campaign is the RuF one, S= Sturmovik...You should be able to figure out the other nationalities by their abbreviations....OK, now you found the files..(We'll use the Soviet fighter campaign as an example...planesRuF.dat file) all you do is double-click that file and you will get a prompt page from Windows, select "pick from a program" and select Notepad....You will now see all planes available for each phase of the campaign, put ypur cursor under the last entry in each section and add the desired plane then press enter to dreate a space between it and the next campaign...example..
LVOV (for some reason, the brackets around
I_16TYPE24 the campaign names won't show up here)

SPITFIRE5BLF etc,etc for each phase, I only listed a few planes but you should get the idea.Do this for all campaigns, its the same editing for each one...........OK, here's how to properly type the planes, make sure you type right or they won't show up........

Well thats most of the new and some of the old ones...just go thru the campaign phases to see how the ones I left out are written........When you're done adding your planes, close the window and click YES went asked if you want to save the changes...fire up FB, start a new campaign, and VOILA' there are all the planes you just added.....Have fun, and if you're still confused, ASK! before doing anything....
If you're interested, I figured out the correct way to add the clipped wing Spitfire's to any offline campaign. Use my editing method that I posted a while back and type in the two clipped-Spits as follows: SPITFIRE5BCLP SPITFIRE5BLFCLP This will give you either version for offline campaigns..
---------------------------------
I have seen some posts by DuxCorvan and others that ask about getting the newer planes to show up in your offline campaigns as AI so you can fight against them. Well it's very easy. In the DGEN folder there are .DB files for various fronts/campaigns/subcampaigns and for various stages of the war, early, mid and late. I wanted to see the new FW-190A6 start showing up in my Berlin campaign where I'm currently flying a P-63. I found the file "Berlin.DB" and opened it in notepad. Under the heading called [Planes] I typed in the proper Dgen name for the A6 which happens to be "FW_190A6" and put the number 24 in front of it where the number 24 denotes how many are able to show up in that campaign at any time. If 24 or more are shot down then the Germans will have to wait to be resupplied with that plane. I have already shot down a few A6s!! I just put that as an estimate and you'll probably have to guess yourself on the number if you don't know the actual historical number. I doubt most of you will be so picky as
to be concerned about the number too much. Here is the way my Berlin.DB file looks in the planes section, to give you an idea. And below that I furnish all the current proper Dgen names for every plane in FB. ( Note: Remember you'll have to type in the exact Dgen code name perfectly or it will not work. )
