Post those screenshots here of moments during a patrol when things didn't go as you wanted and you almost cr*pped your pants. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

I surfaced in a lake and discovered I surfaced next to a Revenge BB. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

Which instantly turned its gun turrets to my bridge. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

And another one:

Trying to ram a DD and getting stuck inside of the darn thing.

Mine was a moment on my penultimate patrol, when i was on patrol to the south east of england, and i got a message to dock at a French port at patrols end.

Not only was the French port not marked on the map (so i had to use my geography lessons to find it) but i was also pretty low on fuel (and feeling lazy) so i plotted through the channel since it was pretty early war.

I waited till nightfall for the run and then went through. The weather was shocking which at the time i thought was great, now i realise how dumb i was. On the surface i got a destroyer alert, and by the time i made it to bridge i was facing the prow of a destroyer at 100 metres, i set hard left rudder and got rammed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

http://img351.imageshack.us/img351/7038/rammified8nm.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I dont know if you can see there but that is me scraping down the side of the destroyer.

He disappeared as fast as he had appeared and i decided to submerge from then on, though my hull was wrecked.

My boat was laid up for almost 2 months with that damage lmao.

i had an incident when i first started taking screenies, but deleted the screenies because of the pure stupidity of what i did (and the fact that i never believed i would tell this story). http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

attacking a convoy i decided to try and get some scenic pictures of me maneuvering around close to ships etc. after i had done this and launched some torpedoes i decided to carry on and try and get some better pics. when i saw the perfect opportunity, a ship was heading on a path to go straight over me, so i decided to plot my course equal to the ship. as the ship proceded over head it dropped depth charges http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif (why didnt i think of that happeneing) as you can guess i was blown out of the water before the ship even finished its attack run.

i have those occasional strokes of stupidity, usually after a few beers and a doobie, but i was stone cold sober when this one happened.

heres an example of the shots i was getting:

I know those moments.

Had one in Scapa Flow.. submerged I popped up the periscope for a casual sweep. When I reached 180 degrees, the bow of a British destroyer filled the screen. There is a method I use for handling these kind of situations;

1) is there time to take a screenshot?
not a chance
2) is there time to evade?
keep dreaming boyo
3) can I laugh?
ah.. go on then!

So I laughed. The destroyer slammed into my conning tower half a second later, and spent the following minute sinking bow first.

Love the pic, WirMussen.

What? How!? Tell me! Tell me this very instant!
I demand that you tell me! Otherwise I'll have to pester Chrystine - could you live with that?
Of course you couldn't. So tell me. Yeah?

EDIT: please? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

i take it you mean the program for taking screenies in .jpeg?

EDIT: http://idealhorizons.intuity.net/snpsh211.zip

you have to edit the name of one of the .dll files, check the readme, its pretty simple

Hey U107wolff,
That DD and your sub pic looks like something from the Philadelphia experiment. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have had plenty of OH SH*T moments. The first one I remember is while on a stormy night and I am milling about around the east side of the Straights of Gibralter looking for shipping. (Its about late 41')

All of a sudden a DD comes out of the rain like a bat outa hell and runs me down. (it was not a "get a screenshot" moment) I almost wet myself. I just kind of sat there stunned...and mad. And then I thought to myself..."Self...they must have radar now". First time I died.

Needless to say, I dont run on the surface at night, in a storm, near enemy territory, when I know ships will have radar.

Sorry, I don't have a screen shot of it but it was very similar to Dominicrigg incident. On the way home from a long patrol(number 14)in a storm not far off Brest. I get a call from the watch crew "Ship spotted". So I go up to the bridge and there is a destroyer firing point blank at my sub!!! Not knowing the best course of action in that split second of a decision so I crash dived. Destroyer turned and crossed over my bow droping depth charges on the way. I didn't stand a chance. It left me with such a bad taste that my watch crew didn't see it sooner that I almost shelved this game. Instead, I started a new career and I'm up to patrol number 20 with a type IXC boat waitting to go to war with America so I can go start Drumbeat. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Great stories guys. Keep 'm coming.

This happend last night during on of our 34th Flotilla missions. We attacked a lightly escorted convoy with 2 uboats. At the end of the battle there was 1 C2 left, so I fired a torp at that thing. Torpedo impact, but it didn't sink. So I fired another one and when it almost reached the C2 the C2 started to sink. The torpedo went over the wreck and continued its course. Then suddenly a big explosion. It seemed that U48 was firing his deckgun at the C2 from the other side. So the torpedo that missed the wreck now hit his diesel compartment.
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

Although he was still afloat his boat was a goner. So I decided to have a closer look how he was doing. I surfaced the boat, then turned off the engine en slided towards him. Unfortunantly I slided a bit to fast and bumped into the floating wreckage of the type VIIB uboat. That was more then it could take. After being DC'd, shot at, hit by a torpedo, this small tab did it and the sub dissappeared to the bottom of the Atlantic. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

That could be possible. If you go at ahead flank while underwater, do a blow ballast, pop a torpedo as you are coming out of the water so it comes out at an angle, and if you are fast enough, it could hit you as it is coming down...

Didn't get the credit (I already complained to U48 about that in the after action discussion. He wasn't amused. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif)

This was actually the first time one of my fish hit a friendly. U48 on the other hand already hit me 3 times before (1 dud, 2 explosions). And he once torpedoed U579 of our group as well.

Interesting.

Has anyone ever been attacked by their own homing torpedo?

I must play this game online some time.

Once when I was playing Silent Hunter II I managed to kill myself with my own torpedo.

It was a while ago but IIRC I fired a FaT torpedo whilst I was submerged and attacking a convoy at short range. It missed, came back around and I changed course and managed to blunder back in front of it.
