I wonder if I can find the original comic book versions?

I program on nightfighters should have been about the Mosquito.

I find it interesting that the narration actually praised the Jordanian pilots in the 'Desert Aces' episode. The reference to the 'battle-hardened Iraqi pilots' in another one just made me laugh though (the bulk of their air force defected to Iran before the air war began.)

...which was a wise move in face of the gathered allied airpower...

Absolutely. But you will deny Allied pilots the glorious air battles in the process.

There was hardly any "glorious" air-battle in DS.

If you ask me, it rather looked like a turkey-shooting.

Three notes on the 'Tuskegee Airmen' episode:

- interesting, I never knew they fought over Hungary as well

- A Mustang captured by the Germans carrying GERMAN national markings used to INFILTRATE American formations...yeah, makes a lot of sense

- I cannot quite follow the narrator's logic...

...the Tuskegee Airmen were a segregated, all-black unit. Thus the homogenous nature of theirs instilled racial pride and strong comradeship in the pilots. This contributed to the great successes of their unit. Thus their existence proved that segregation in the American armed forces was unjust and wrong.

Um, huh?

OK, I get what the narration actually wanted to say and I don't object to it, but the logic was kind of funny.

You know, dogfights usually pisses me off, mostly with the narration issues and undermining the challenge the enemy was, and the one sided perspective, etc... But I watched the WWI episode, and I figured it might have been less biased since it was so long ago and the segments didn't have the US in it, and I found it to be alot better. Though some of the physics in the sequences looked questionable to me, the story telling was much better imo. It makes me want to fly Knights of The Sky so bad!

Yes, it p*sses me off too. they're very one-sided. The narrator is a bit too dramatic, but (maybe that's why) I like it anyway! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
They should make a Battle of Britain episode, or another one about late war Spitfires! (No, please not the US ones!)

That german kamikaze episode was pretty interesting. I didn't know about that. "The pilot wanted to crash in the leader bomber, and he wanted to survive the collision" what a contradiction!http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif this german guy was very lucky indeed to having made it!

Every episode is an opportunity. Get your friends to watch with paper and pencil and then
afterwards see who caught the most actual blunders. If a mistake is a stand-alone mention
then it's one point and if another 'fact' is made from it then it's a two point conversion.
At the end, everybody comes out a bit smarter.

Just been watching the Vietnam gunkills episode. Very good.

I have the first series on DVD. Admittedly it's not a flawless series but it's the only one we have on dogfighting and it could be a whole lot worse.

Personally I love the series, warts and all.

I watch for the footage and the veterans. I also have the full Victory At Sea collection and
some other period propaganda/pep-rally videos also for the footage. I think that the best and
most real vintage I have is Thunderbolt! about P-47 ops into Italy from Corsica. It's pretty
much business, showing some of how a job was done, honest promotion IMO.
