The default DGen campaign for PF is simply pathetic IMHO.

Yes I agree, PF Dgen is for ****, hardly any campaigns are good, you get pitted against 20+ bandits and only 2 on your side. Yours and anothers..... what the heck is that about?

I can only play offline at the moment and it pi**es me off at times due to the AI's simplified FM. Example: I was in a P-38 @ 6000m, using IL2DCG, we came across 6 190s @ around 3000-3500m, the 38's dived at which time I turned off AutoPilot, I hit more than 600 kph and my flight surfaces froze, meanwhile my AI buddies stopped on a dime and came right behind the 190s while I plummeted to my death. AI cheats, plain and simple.

Oh, I did start a campaign with Dgen starting in Stalingrad '42(the first year available), so far Im 50 missions in and on a new map, 25 summer 25 winter Stalingrad. Now in Kuban, havent touched the flightstick for awhile... work is getting in the way.

That's some serious flyin' time you have there Atomic!

I have only two that show 100% and they are shorties.

When Tigers Could Fly (P-40/Hawk)= 34
Against Overwhelming Odds (Me163)= 27

I have 5 more campaigns with about 30 missions done in each.

I also have a Me-262 Berlin campaign that died after the 15th mission. It's from the original FB/AEP and shows me a map loading error for mission 16. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Hey han freak solo was it maybe "No MAP in mission file" error that you have experienced?

If that is so, I probably can help you out with that. I have found excellent thread on SimHQ how to solve that problem.

About campaigns/number of missions, yes I have flew them a lot, but unfortunately I have lost many of them due to crashes (of game and windows).
Nowadays I regularly back them up (missions and users folder).

Also want to mention funny thing about USMC and IJA campaign.. at the very end you get to fly one mission (for IJA in the Zero intercepting lone B-29, for USMC you get into P-47 and escort the B-29).
Anyhow the Pacific campaigns are way harder than ETO ones, more planes you encounter (sometimes silly odds 20:2 against you like _VR_ScorpionWorm said).

I have never really get myself into custom made campaigns (user made and some produced by programs).. I have few bad experiences with them (game crashes). So eventually I give up and I since then I am playing only stock ones (yes, that's right the ones with ingenious briefings).http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yep, that's the problem! Show me where to go!

I just finished another shorty campaign, this one by Eurofinn. Called "Grumman Hellcat" with 28 missions. The last mission had you flying your Hellcat at 29,500 feet escorting B-29s against Ki-84s.

No matter what the plane, I have a hell of a time flying that high against other aircraft.

The 3 third party campaigns I completed are challenging and entertaining. They all work well. I've got two started from Battle Over Europe and so far, smooth sailing.

Well this SimHQ old topic (http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=98;t=006393) may help you out with the problem. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Where do you get these third party campaigns??? They are normally a lot better than the ones that come with the game if memory serves me correctly.

Am an old IL-2 flyer and have got the urge to fly again, so bought PF, just have to learn how to take off and land, but am always looking for some good campaigns

I have installed original IL-2 again, few days ago.. features 'static' type of campaign.

Which BTW ain't really a bad thing. It is a matter of prefernace, but seems to me that the feedback on this forum is quite negative to the 'dynamic' campaign system, as it is now in FB+PF. As oposite to 'static' system..

I have really played a lot in campaign mode and have came up to conclusion that the 'static' (old) mode is better than 'dynamic' (as it is now).
Why? Simple.. it is more historically correct, or at least can be(with a little research job). 'Dynamic' system (current) can not feature any specific briefing, any specific little detail which would make the boost in immersion.

After some time, I really get sick of any 'dynamic' type of campaign.. I continue to play them only because there is 'time skip' function.

check the link

a lot of airwarfare.com missions http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_singlemissionspf.htm)
checksix.com campaigns (http://www.checksix-fr.com/bibliotheque/index.php)

You may as well check Lowengrin's site (http://www.lowengrin.com/content.php?article), if you are interested to play good missions/campaigns. You will find further info on his site..

Thx Atomic, quick question for you, where do I put these campaings??

Also a combined install needs Ace expansion, right??

Thx again

Here's the deal, these are the combinations.

FB
FB+AEP
PF (stand alone)
FB+AEP+PF (merged ver.)

Of course, I have skipped the original IL-2.. I doubt that you play original IL-2(http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).
The best way to go is obviously 4th way, with merged version. That way you do not have to think if your version will be enough to play some specific campaign. They will all work then.
However, if you have some other combination, you must pay attention to version required for specific campaign/mission you want.

Put your campaign files in appropriate folder; for instance if you have downloaded campaign for Russian pilot, you will have to put it in
D:\Games<span class="ev_code_RED">\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\Missions\Campaign\RU</span>
That is my path.. yours however may be different, depends where you have installed the game. But path marked in red is the same for all.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You may also want to consider backing up your campaign files just in case something goes wrong (your campaign crashes and you cannot load the mission or else). If you want to do that (I reccomend it), save (copy/paste) your "Users" and "Missions" folder to safe place. Take note that you do not have to save whole Missions folder, just the specific campaign folder (it should look something like dgen_l_leningrad41doe0).

The Castaway Campaign by Keiron (Dubbo2) is pretty interesting, so far. Great story for each flight. It's for the Beaufighter. Great concept! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Completed 'The Blue' recently, really enjoyed it.
In the middle of 'When Tigers Could Fly' at the moment. Was very impressed with the supporting info in the read me etc, alot of thought has gone into it.
Also enjoying '2 little ducs', some lengthy flights, with the obligatory staying in formation flying, (more or less got that cracked now), but I like that sort of thing!!

Okay, Castaway was only 11 missions.

Great briefings! I just wish it was longer! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Thanks for the comments. I would have gone on longer but I had run out of new things to do on the island. I had a lot of fun making that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you want a couple of longer ones I have also made a couple of small non-historical campaigns for the P-38. They merge into each other and total about 35 missions.

I have finished few more of stock campaigns;

Hungarian fighter 91 mission

RAF Hurricane Singapore 1942 30 missions (+ special mission at end with Seafire)

IJN G4M 'Betty' 120 missions (+ special mission at end with lone A6M5 intercepting lone B29, may as well be 122 missions don't know exactly since my comp has crashed and I haven't been able to recover that one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif)

Dedicated offline campaigners might enjoy this:Disaster On The Frontiers (http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_campaigns_dof.htm)

It's a series of thirteen entirely new DGen 4.01 campaigns for the Eastern Front 1941-5. The campaigns are probably easier than standard DGen, and they have more ground targets.
