Lately Ive been finding it hard to get online consistently for long periods and often frustrating when I manage ....Eg map changes just as you are about to drop bombs or pull trigger, rammed, random Mission Loading error ,bad ping, ping kick, death kick, wings come off in dive/black out ,Spitfires (!) etc etc
Anyway like most since going on Hyperlobby about 3 years ago I rarely spent much time offline .But a few weeks back I tried a roughly 2 hour offline night bombing mission from Leningrad to Helsinki in a SB3 (mod) and absolutely loved it .The sense of immersion was amazing .(I even turned off the lights in the room!)I only dropped a couple of bombs from about 1km alt on oil storage silos (train carriages underneath to 'record' hits) but seeing as you could only actually see target for under 60 seconds in the pitch dark (moon mod at minimum brightness)I was rather pleased with myself.(Got 8 out of 10 carriages)
So for my second solo mega mission I decided to go sub hunting in the Atlantic in a B24(mod).I used the Iwo Jima island map to simulate Iceland and flew by dead reckoning about 300+ miles to a UBoat refuelling point where a Milch Cow was refuelling some other subs. Now I know this sounds a bit mad ....it takes about 90 mins to get there over water .But planes with Level Stabiliser are much easier to spend serious stick time on ...you can go off and do things for a few minutes once you get the heading/alt /speed etc spot on.
Sadly the three attempts I have made at this have ended in tragedy with my forgetting to load bombs the first time ,crashing straight into the sub the second and accidentally pressing the bombardier's toggle auto pilot button and dumping all my bombs mid -sea just tonight.I am rather proud to have found the subs three out of three times though!
I havent even gotten to rendezvous with the cargo ship convoy an hour North and escort them through a wolf pack ...
So anybody else into this kind of thing?Any ideas for missions?
Im tempted to use Coop/Online (although only playing alone ) missions as then I could alt/tab(ctrl alt delete ) to desktop without the mission clock pausing.(very important for dead reckoning navigation)
