View Full Version : Oleg---Could smoke visibility be increased?

I was messing with a mission that is a second group of SBDs attacking a CVBG. I placed a few zero-fuel Kates on deck with bombs so the CV would be damaged. The smoke was not visible from dive bombing alt at all. this is the point where the smoke had just started to draw in:

The distance ships are visible is already too short for any kind of scouting. The smoke should be visible even farther than the ship itself. Is there any way the visibility distance settings for min ship LOD and smoke could be available as config settings? That way people with lower end machines could dial it down to what it is now, and the rest could up it to something liek as realistic distance. BTW, "snooper" recon planes routinely spotted ships from 30 miles (~48km) away.

Also, the AI planes refuse to follow a command to bomb from normal dive bomber altitudes (10-15,000 feet was normal for USN and IJN) making it impossible to set up missions where a player leads a group of scout bombers looking for targets (the gattack waypoint must be explicit for the DBs to attack since they won't follow orders from alt).

Sorry for an OT...but where did the 1942 Dauntless paintscheme come from and why isn't it a default for the SBD-3? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

**** good question, I have no idea why the default is what it is. The skin is by Tchaika, it's the "Lt William E. Hall Scouting 2 USS Lexington 1942" set contains a generic early and late 1942 version.

agree on smoke - I've seen photos where all you can see is billowing smoke

I second the request.

I third it-Goes along with that "increase ship view, and ship wake view distance" thread I had started a while back.

All-important stuff, not just for eye-candy, but for practical gameplay issues.
