View Full Version : Have people lost interest in single missions?

I've noticed from netwings and airwarfare.com that fewer people seem to be submitting and downloading single missions for offline play than used to be the case. I was wondering if this represented a diminished interest in this flight sim or is it perhaps because more people are involved with ongoing campaigns or prefer to fly online.

If people prefer campaigns but like myself struggle to find the time to write them I was wondering if there would be any interest in developing a community based system of campaign design. There could be a suggested theme for example and people would submit single missions to be included. All missions could be hosted and at the end of lets say a month or two weeks people could vote for their favourite to be included in the campaign. We would then move onto the second mission of the campiagn and so on. I'm not sure if this is practical or even if it fits in with what most people would prefer but please treat my ideas as a starting point if anybody is interested.

There will be at least two new single missions added to the Netwings library in the next update. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've submitted several single missions to Flying Legends and I will eventually submit to other sites as I work through some other things.

I also have a Pacific single mission package that I've been working over slowly. I want to release it when I have say 20 single missions to fly in for various sides and events. Mostly just for fun with history sprinkled in.

I prefer to build campaigns as you can develop a theme from one mission to another. Although, I have made some really good one off missions that don't belong in a campaign.

It is really more interresting (but hardly longer) to develop a complete campaign on a single theme, including a historical background, some videos, skins, musics perheaps, or some references to real events...
Possible that this is a natural evolution on mission developpers. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Note that you can play static campaign missions as single missions by moving the mission files from the campaign folder structure to the single mission file tree.

tbh I never had much interest in single missions.. right from the beggining.
I have always had thing for the campaigns tho. I like that way of playing the best.

However I enjoy in good single mission (especially COOP) from time to time.

I don't like single missions either. I prefer to download 20+ missions campaigns. Even if I die in the first one I still prefer it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Thanks to all for your replies http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif but my main point was would people be interested in a community campaign mission generator whereby single missions were submitted on a given theme to be built up into a campaign according to popular choice. That way people could opt in and out of writing campaigns according to demands on their time and the number of campaigns that were available for download would probably increase. Of course I understand that the greatest satisfaction always comes from completing your own projects but maybee it would work if enough people were interested. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have plenty of single missions that I created for making my screenshot art. But I have not submitted them due to the airfields being pretty much complete and may cause some frame rate problems for some. maybe I will once FLying Legends gets back up and running again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Otherwise, they would never fit together as a campaign. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Someone would also have to put them together in a package and do the briefings so that they made sense. There is alot more to compiling a campaign than just making the missions. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You should post your question on the mission builders' forum if you want the group answer. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Thanks bird brain. It does sound like such a project would be difficult to organise http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I've played all your campaigns apart from the Me-262 and enjoyed them very much. I'm looking forward to making a start on your Me-262 project which is my own personal favourite plane in the series. Thanks for bringing my attention to it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
