View Full Version : Regarding Shader model 3 and water=3

Would it be possible to split shader model 3 into 2 extra settings in the config.ini
1. Water=3 gives nice shiny sparkling water.
2. Water=4 gives the waves on the water.

This way those of us who want the sparkling water can set it to 3 and not have such a large hit on frame rates. Then if waves are wanted water=4 can be set.

Sparkling water? It sparkles?

I've never seen water=3 actually in motion. SO I'm not sure what you mean. Sounds nifty!

Yes the water actually sparkles and a pic doesn't capture it unfortunately, pic's look better even though the glistening or shimmering doesn't show up.

I'm playing through HL2 right now and i'm wondering WTF is up with FB's water effects.

How come I get amzing water effects in HL2, but in FB I can't because of the performance penalty?

This is probably due to a difference in rendering technology. HL2 has the benefits of a modern graphics engine, compared to FB which has one several years old.
