Sunday afternoon my daughter was using my gaming rig to upload to her iPod when the chipset fan failed [these things always happen when the stores are closed, ever notice that?] I shut it down immediately. Turns out this particular board [Asus A8V-E Deluxe] is prone to flaky chipset fans.

I replaced the defective fan with a Zalman northbridge cooler heatsink. It was a real bugger getting that fan off. I had to remove all the cards, cables and wires and then remove the motherboard from the chassis in order to cut off the pegs from the underside of the mobo. Whew! Just finished putting it all back together. While I had it open I installed a hard drive cooler.

I'm sure glad I'm learning all this stuff at computer school. This is the second major system snafu in the last few weeks. Two weeks ago the hard drive on my laptop died, so I replaced it and the CPU fan, which was flaky as well.

With all the money I spent the last few weeks, I could've bought a Bunker Rat liquid cooling system! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Anyhow, glad to be back to the forum after a two day hiatus. Two days ain't much to some folks, but to me it was almost unbearable.

I've been "out to lunch" myself as I've been switching job positions here in this wonderful building I work.

A position of higher responsibility but more work...

but at least I got a better workstation out of it!

Actually a they had to construct a 400 meter landing strip and a catapult on the roof! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I beat traffic every time. I've had a parking space for awhile. In reality, here in DC we have legalized commuter hitchiking. The hitchikers or "slugs" are normally well dressed professionals. Today, Silent_O picks up a young professional woman. I shifted at higher revolutions today on purpose http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif, the wonders of testosterone and a well built Barvarian Automobile! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
