Hi guyz,

Below you will see two images. As the title suggests, I need to ID this uniform. Any takers?

Take note, there seems to be two different uniforms.

Also, is there a significance in the number plate on the bike?

Also, is that some sort of weapon on the rider's side?

Hmmm, to be honest, I don`t think so. I know something of this person and I`m sure he had nothing to do with the railway.

Take note of the collars. As for the bike, I think it`s not a BMW. I wonder if Hanomag made bikes.

Guessing the lower photo is Reichsarbeitsdienst or Organization Todt, or some such labour outfit.

Pirschjaeger, you're back! Danny-Boy's been anxiously waiting for you to return, even adding "Anxiously waiting for Pirschjaeger to return. Come home Fritz." to his sig. Now you get that photoshop out for him. . . http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Looks like it is an Ardie 197cc 2-stroke, 7hp, 1937-1938

Not a bad site, take a look, (except for the opening text http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif )http://www.autogallery.org.ru/gal.htm

Now back to the original quaestion.

The first one is not military.

The second is; Deutsche Wehrmacht. However, he does not have the eagle patch over his right breast pocket. There is no distinguishing insignia present in that photo to allow any more specific ID. I think it is post-war shot.

If there is no eagle on the breast, it is usually no uniform of the Wehrmacht.
The Feldbluse are of the same types the Wehrmacht used and you can see Doppellitzen, which pretty much excludes all options, but Feuerschutzpolizei, Gendarmerie and Schutzpolizei, who had their distinctive eagle on the left arm.
The broad Tresse shows he is an NCO, but naming the exact rank is impossible since I can't see the Schulterklappen clearly, not to mention that the ranks of the troops named above had different names.

Ok guys, thx for the imput. The man in the photo is my opa, Fritz Franzen. The photos were taken between 42 and 43.

This has been a bit of an enigma to me. My father will tell only a simple story "Opa was a Musiker in the war" and nothing more. The thing is, I have seen a photo of Opa in a different uniform. The other uniform was definitely high level. My father will not show me the photo.

In the first pic, my buddy says he looks like village police. This makes sense since I do know my family has had a long history of serving as police in Germany. During the war my family was in a little village called Bad Bodenteich.

The second pic: I have no idea.

I really wish my father would let me see the other pic I mentioned. All I can say about it is that is was Wehrmacht and highly decorated.

Found this, regarding the number plate:

" IS steht für Preußen Hannover." (IS represents Hannover)

This makes sense since my family was in the area during the war.

Pirschjaeger, have you tried posting the question on Feldgrau?
http://www.feldgrau.com/
and try as well,
http://www.feldgrau.net/phpBB2/index.php
or if you know his service number some one at Feldgrau may be able to help.

Horrido.

Since the picture is B&W you cannot see the color tabs on the second photo, but if he's a policeman, it is probably green - as in Grüne Polizei.

IIRC the Grüne Polizei (civilian police) wore military uniforms in WW2, but with the color collar tabs denoting service (and other service tabs).

(Feldgendarmerie = German MP, not to be confused - these are the guys with the big chain around their neck - aka Kettenhunde).

The first photo, I can't place, but it might be some sort of dispatch riders uniform (as any branch had a uniform), or even some Party thing.
